Globetrotter BCIT SCHOOL OF BUSINESS INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS

The international programs offered by the BCIT School of Business help domestic and foreign students and faculty gain a global perspective by incorporating first-hand knowledge of the larger world. They gain specific knowledge of the economy, culture, government, and everyday life of the country where they study or teach. Globalization is key in today s business world. Tomorrow s leaders will be expected to speak multiple languages, work in foreign countries, and bridge cultural differences to achieve social, economic, and political objectives. The international programs available through the School of Business help students and faculty take the first step on the path to becoming global citizens. OUTGOING STUDENTS PARTNER UNIVERSITIES Exchange opportunities are not limited to the institutes that have signed partnership agreements with BCIT. Most universities accept visiting students from other countries. While the same fee arrangements may not be available, the School of Business International Exchange Office will happily assist students to apply for exchange with a recognized institute of their choice. BCIT DOUBLE DEGREE PROGRAMS BCIT offers business students the opportunity to earn a double degree in partnership with our international partner institutions. Tuition and other academic fees for double degree program students will be collected only by the sending institution. Students are responsible for paying their transportation, medical insurance, accommodation, meals, textbooks, personal expenses, and all other expenses incurred on their behalf and any debts incurred during the course of the study period. University of Applied Sciences bfi Vienna The double degree program between the BCIT BTech in Accounting program and the UAS bfi Vienna BA in Banking and Finance program is a great opportunity to get academic experience in international banking and finance. The double degree program offers both an academic and work opportunity with an internship in Austria. Students will obtain degrees in: Bachelor of Technology in Accounting from BCIT Bachelor of Arts in Business in Banking and Finance from UAS bfi Vienna Students that complete a two-year BCIT diploma may receive advanced placement or course credit in the following bachelor degree programs: British Columbia Institute of Technology Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) Bachelor of Business (Hotel, Tourism, Event, Real Estate and Property, and Sport) Bachelor of International Business Bachelor of Technology in Accounting (BTech) Griffith University (Australia) Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting Requires completion of the BCIT Accounting diploma Bachelor of Commerce in Finance Requires completion of the BCIT Finance diploma Bachelor of Business Requires completion of the BCIT Business Management, Human Resource Management, or Marketing Management diploma Requires completion of the BCIT Tourism Management or Professional Real Estate diploma Requires completion of the BCIT International Business, International Business Global Supply Chain, or Entrepreneurship diploma Bachelor of Communication 3 semesters with the study periods 3 evenings a week plus Saturdays Language of instruction: English Tuition fee for BCIT graduates: 365 Euro per semester + 17 Euro Austrian Students Union Fee Admission procedure: MC knowledge test and presentation at BCIT campus Application deadline: March 1st University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria, Steyr The master s degree in Global Sales and Marketing at UASUA Styer is designed to provide you with the advanced skills need for an international business career. This program is available to students in BCIT s BBA or Global Business Studies certificate programs. Length: Four semesters Language of instruction: English Students will obtain degrees in: Admission procedure: Recommendation by BBA program head Application deadline: January 31st, March 31st, and June 30th Bachelor of Business Administration from BCIT Bachelor of Arts in Business in Global Sales and Marketing from UASUA Styer BCIT offers business graduates the opportunity to earn a graduate degree with one of our international partner institutions. BCIT Bachelor degree grads who wish to engage in graduate studies abroad are eligible to apply. The School of Business will assist BBA and BTech grads in applying to graduate programs in other countries. Students should note that graduate admission requirements vary across institutes and applicants are subject to each institute s admission criteria. University of Applied Sciences bfi Vienna The master s degree in International Banking and Finance at UAS bfi Vienna provides students with advanced skills and knowledge in international banking and finance. Requires completion of the BCIT Broadcast & Online Journalism, Radio Arts & Entertainment, or Television diploma Tuition fee for BCIT graduates: Free BCIT GRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION Another option available is to complete BCIT s Graduate Certificate in Business Administration and complete an MBA at an international institution. Students that complete the BCIT Graduate Certificate in Business Administration may enter the following master s programs: Coventry University (England) Fondazione CUOA (Italy) Griffith University (Australia) Bachelor of Digital Media Length: The double degree program between the BCIT BBA program and the UASAS Styer Global Sales and Marketing program is designed to provide you with the skills need for an international business career. GRADUATE DEGREE PROGRAMS INTERNATIONAL BACHELOR DEGREE PROGRAMS Master of Arts in Business, MA Master of Arts in Business, MA Bachelor of Business Administration, Bachelor of Technology in Accounting, and Global Business Studies students are eligible to spend a semester on exchange at a partner university. Each year there is a limited number of openings at institutes in a variety of countries. The timing and nature of course offerings also depends on the choice of institute. Students are encouraged to visit the partner institutes websites to see which institute is best suited for their academic and personal goals. INCOMING STUDENTS BRIDGING PROGRAM INTO BUSINESS DIPLOMA PROGRAM Study Abroad students who already hold a bachelor s degree or diploma can enroll into bridging courses that will allow them to enter Level 2 or 3 of the following diploma programs: Accounting Broadcast and Online Journalism Business Information Technology Management Business Management Business Operations Management Finance Financial Planning General Insurance and Risk Management Human Resource Management International Business Management Marketing Communications Tourism Management Entrepreneurship Professional Real Estate Professional Sales Radio Arts and Entertainment Advanced placement into Level 2 or 3 is subject to seat availability and a good academic performance. The Business Management Studies certificate bridges into many of our diploma programs. Students should consult with the Student Mobility Coordinator on designing a bridging program into their diploma program of interest. SUMMER FIELD SCHOOL BCIT Field School in Austria and Italy SUMMER SCHOOL IN VANCOUVER The objective of the School of Business Field School is to expand the applied learning process both inside and outside of the classroom. The program enriches the academic experience for its participants and provides professional development opportunities for its faculty and staff. The Field School offers students the possibility to attend intensive courses held by instructors from BCIT and international guest speakers abroad. Cities: Vienna, Salzburg, Vicenza, Verona, Bologna, Trieste, Milan, and Venice The School of Business now offers shorter international summer schools for those who cannot go abroad during the regular school year. This shorter program will offer different countries and topics each year, combined with company visits, cultural events, and sightseeing. Students attending the Field School have the opportunity to receive credits for academic courses, to learn about European business practices by visiting international companies, and ultimately, to be fully immersed in the culture by means of guided tours, activities, sports, interaction with local people, and other events. Two 3.0 credit courses Accommodation and breakfast Transportation around Europe Field trips to course related sites and companies Cultural program Free time for own travel International Broadcast Summer School The International Broadcast Summer School at BCIT is a unique opportunity that will sharpen your skills in online news and information presentation. The mornings are spent working with educators on two credit courses. Video Journalism (BCST 1190) is an introductory course in journalism storytelling in which the student conceives shoots and edits a story. The focus is on solid communication skills and how to function as an effective storyteller. This is a hands-on course involving some writing and presentation skills, camera work, and video editing. Online Journalism (BCST 2248) explores fundamental online skills including writing, research, social media strategies, photo editing, and embedding interactive features. Legal and ethical issues are also discussed. You will tour selected newsrooms in the city such as the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), explore the area s major attractions such as Grouse Mountain, the Vancouver Aquarium, the Capilano Suspension Bridge, Granville Island, and Whistler, the picturesque Olympic village.
