1 Westpac Travelling Scholarship University of Otago Business School Established in 1953 by the Trustees of the Dunedin Savings Bank (now Westpac). 1. The scholarship will be awarded to students studying for degrees and diplomas within the Business School who have been accepted for the University s exchange programme in a school on the current Business School Approved Exchange Partners List and who show a capacity for leadership and responsibility in business, community or educational affairs. 2. The scholarship shall be held while on an exchange overseas where the scholar shall undertake a course of study approved by the Head of Department concerned and the Dean of the Business School. 3. The scholarship is awarded on the recommendation of the Selection Committee consisting of the Vice-Chancellor and the Dean of the Business School, or their nominees, and a representative of Westpac. 4. Scholarships shall be advertised twice yearly to those students from the Business School who have been accepted into the University s exchange programme. Applicants will be required to outline their career goals and indicate how they intend to demonstrate a capacity for leadership and responsibility in business or educational affairs. The Selection Panel is looking for ways in which you have demonstrated leadership within your school, university, sporting, cultural and work environment. Academic excellence also forms part of the consideration. 5. Awards will normally be up to $3,000 with the intent of fully distributing the income from the fund. However, awards will only be made in any year when, in the opinion of the Selection Committee, there are candidates of sufficient merit. 6. With the approval of Westpac, the Council may alter these regulations at any time. 7. Candidates who have already been successful with this scholarship are not eligible to apply again.
