Sustainable Sweden Tour 2 nd 15 th September 2012 Welcome to our next Tour in September. It will be split in two parts, one in Southern Sweden and the other one in Northern Sweden. You can choose either one week or the whole trip of two weeks. Host communities will be Eco-Municipalities who will share their experiences of how to transform the communities to sustainability. We will also have a special focus on renewable energy and sustainable economy. Tour Leader will be our chairman Torbjörn Lahti who has three decades of experiences of working with Eco-Municipalities. We also have the pleasure to have Manfred Max-Neef, the famous alternative economist from Chile, as one of our participants on the Tour. He will hold a couple of seminars during this 2-week journey. We are looking forward to meet you in September! About Manfred Max-Neef The Chilean economist focuses on alternative development methods. He taught economics at Berkeley University in the 1960's. In this frame, he got an early interest for development issues in Third World countries. Thus, he worked in the FAO (UN Food and Agriculture Organization) and the International Labor Organization. In 1981, Max-Neef published From the Outside Looking In : Experiences in Barefoot Economics, a book in which he describes his experiences in poor countries of Latin America. He argues that economy needs to be applied at the human scale in order to fulfill human fundamental needs. Thus, he challenges the traditional economic development indicators such as the GDP or GNP. Instead, Max-Neef designed a human development model based upon the fundamental human needs identifies through his researches and explained in his second book : Human Scale Development published in 1991. In 2011, he published a new book Economics unmasked, which is a merciless reckoning of the current economic paradigm and an introduction to the new sustainable economic paradigm where he also sees the Eco-Municipalities as a direct implementation of his own ideas. Manfred Max-Neef has received the Right Livelihood Award in 1983 for his work. He currently teaches at the Austral University of Chile in Valdivia and is councilor in the World Future Council.
