We support good forestry practices and ongoing improvements in wood burning stoves and heaters that use firewood. Firewood serves an important role in Australia s domestic heating sector and is a cheap heating option for many families. As a renewable fuel source (provided firewood supplies are properly managed) it does not add to a net greenhouse gas release. International pressures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions suggest that firewood may have a much brighter future. When sustainably managed, firewood recycles carbon from the atmosphere. Firewood plantations can also serve other ecologically desirable functions including wastewater treatment, salination reduction, erosion control, wildlife habitat and aesthetics. It is more energy efficient to use the firewood in the home than fuel an electric power station with biomass and then use the electricity to heat the home. Inbuilt Open fireplaces lose a large percentage of heat straight up the chimney and also have no control over the rate of burn thereby wasting a significant amount of wood. Scandia Warmbrite Inbuilt wood heaters are designed to maximise heat output and burning efficiency from your existing fireplace. If you prefer the aesthetics of an inbuilt wood heater but do not have a fireplace we have the answer with our zero clearance box designed to suit our inbuilt range. This features a double-skinned steel box which utilises air flow to provide additional insulation around an inbuilt wood heater allowing a timber framed fireplace to be constructed with minimal clearances. Both units are compliance certified to Australian Standards AS/NZS-4012-4013 and AS/NZS-2918-2001 by the Australian Home Heating Association.
