An important element in CSR Gyprock Impact Damage Resistant Wall Systems is CSR Gyprock Impactchek, which is a purpose designed fibreglass bonded mesh reinforced plasterboard that exceeds the requirements of the Building Code of Australia (BCA) for soft body impact resistance. Impact damage resistance is not directly related to acoustic performance, acoustic requirements should be addressed as an additional issue where appropriate. APPLICATIONS Gyprock Impactchek Plasterboard has been primarily developed for use in areas that are required to be resistant to soft body impact in accordance with the Building Code of Australia Clause C1.8. Although the highest impact damage resistance is only required by the BCA in some Class 9 Building situations, the inherent impact resistance of Gyprock Impactchek Plasterboard makes it ideal for all areas of high pedestrian traffic in all building types, it should be used wherever there is a risk of impact damage. These risk areas include corridors, foyers stair shafts in commercial buildings, shopping centres, cinemas, offices, sports stadiums, schools, hospitals nursing homes. Gyprock Impactchek Plasterboard can also be used in fire rated wall systems with a fire rating level () of up to /120/120 where higher impact damage resistance is also required. Gyprock Impactchek is also useful in acoustic wall systems given the product s high density. 3 DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS System Performance All wall configurations detailed in Table 2 have been laboratory tested to establish their structural performance characteristics. To produce this specified performance, field installation of these systems must comply with the stud spacings detailed all relevant installation detailing as specified in the CSR Gyprock Fire & Acoustic Design Guide, NºGYP500 or the CSR Gyprock Steel Frame Wall Systems Installation Guide, NºGYP544. The substitution of materials or a compromise in assembly may result in failure under critical conditions. Impact Resistant Wall Systems An impact resistant wall system can be designed constructed from any wall system detailed in the CSR Gyprock Fire & Acoustic Design Guide, NºGYP500, by substituting Gyprock Impactchek Plasterboard in lieu of the specified CSR Gyprock Plasterboard products as detailed in Table 1. The Gyprock Impactchek must be applied to the traffic side or sides of the wall in accordance with the BCA requirements, can be either the first or second layer in two layer systems. Fire Resistance Level The Fire Resistance Level () of a CSR fire rated wall system will not be detrimentally affected by the substitution of lining material as detailed in Table 1. Sound Transmission Class The Sound Transmission Class (STC) of a CSR wall system will not be detrimentally affected by the substitution of lining material as detailed in Table 1. Where 13mm Gyprock Impactchek is used in lieu of 13mm Gyprock Stard Plasterboard, an improvement in the STC may be experienced. 4 Impact Damage Resistant Wall Systems The systems detailed here are only a sample of the possible CSR Impact Damage Resistant Wall Systems. Refer to the CSR Gyprock Fire & Acoustic Design Guide for additional systems which can be upgraded to include increased Soft Body Impact Resistance. 5 HANDLING & STORAGE FIG 2: PLASTERBOARD CUTTING All materials must be kept dry, preferably stored inside. Care should be taken to avoid sagging or damage to ends, edges surfaces of sheets. All Gyprock plasterboard CeminSeal Wallboard must be stacked flat, properly supported on a level platform or on support members which extend the full width of the sheets which are spaced at a maximum of 600mm centres. If stored outside, sheets must be stored off the ground, stacked as previously detailed protected from the weather. Buildings should be sealed against water ingress before plasterboard is installed. It is recommended that plasterboard damaged by water is replaced. Sheets must be dry prior to fixing, jointing finishing. FIG 1: STACKING AND SUPPORT OF LINING SHEETS FRAMING Support full width of Gyprock plasterboard or CeminSeal Wallboard sheets 600mm maximum Steel or timber framing must comply with the relevant specifications detailed in the CSR Gyprock Fire & Acoustic Design Guide, NºGYP500. PLASTERBOARD INSTALLATION Plasterboard Cutting Gyprock plasterboard can be cut by scoring the face linerboard with a knife snapping the plasterboard back away from the scored face. Always score the front (non-printed) face first. The back linerboard can then be cut from the back towards the front. Gyprock Impactchek has fibreglass mesh behind the back face paper, so this face must also be cut before snapping. Alternatively for plasterboards other than Impactchek, a saw may be used from the front face. Cut edges are to be smoothed as required to permit neat joints. A metal T-square will assist in creating a clean, straight cut. TIP: SIte recessing tools are available to treat cut edges for easier jointing. All cut-outs for pipes, electrical installations, fixtures etc, are to be scored on both faces before removal, or are to be cut out with a suitable tool. The use of an impact tool such as a hammer is not an acceptable method of producing cut-outs. If the plasterboard adhesive is not properly cured, hold the sheet in place with temporary blocks on adjacent studs or joists while making cut-outs. Fixing CSR Gyprock Impactchek Plasterboard sheets can be fixed either horizontally of vertically must be installed to the same specifications as detailed for the layer it is replacing. Appropriate installation details can be found in the CSR Gyprock Steel Frame Wall Systems Installation Guide, NºGYP544, or the CSR Gyprock Fire & Acoustic Design Guide, NºGYP500. Protection During Construction All assemblies shall be suitably protected from exposure to excessive moisture during installation to avoid water damage to the Gyprock Impactchek Plasterboard. Jointing & Finishing Jointing finishing of the outer layer of plasterboard shall be in accordance with CSR Gyprock Plasterboard Residential Installation Guide, NºGYP547. GYPROCK IMPACTCHEK 5
