INDIGENOUS WHAT IS THIS PROGRAM ALL ABOUT? The Indigenous Youth Artist Showcase will run from October to December 2013, resulting in an exhibit at Open Space in March 2014. From October to December, youth participants (age 15-24) will work with Indigenous artist mentors, elders and senior artists on their artistic vision, practice, and career path. Participants will need to be available on some Sundays and weekday evenings for the studio workshops, field trips and artist talks with senior artists. Participants will also have the option of selling their artwork in a pop-up shop in mid-december, and will be supported to create pieces for sale or display at this exciting event. HOW DO I APPLY? There are two ways to apply! Your application package must include the following: Completed application form Mini Portfolio (Three examples of your artwork. If you are choosing Option #2, please submit photographs, videos, websites or other digital mediums of your work, not originals.) Parent/guardian signature for participants below age 18 Option #1: OPEN HOUSE Drop by Open Space on September 19, 6-9pm to meet the project team. We will be on hand to help with filling out the application form or answer questions. Bring your mini portfolio (three examples of your artwork), as originals that you will take away with you or photographs of your work. We are looking for Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit, non-status, status, Metis, and so on) youth ages 15 to 24 who are passionate about making art! Applicants should have an established artistic practice, and be interested in having their artwork in a studio exhibit, as well as participating in mentorship and supported studio time with other Indigenous artists, elders and mentors.
