Installing the VPN Client for Microsoft Windows OS 1. Go to the VPN Information Center web site and click on the Cisco VPN Client for Microsoft Windows OS link. 2. A File Download window will appear. Click on the Open button. A window similar to the following will 3. Enter C:\temp into the Unzip to folder field replacing the default directory. The window should look similar to the one below: 4. Click on the Unzip button. After the files have been unzipped, a window similar to the following will 5. Click on the OK button.
6. Right-click the Start button and then choose Explore. Click on the temp directory located under C:. 7. Double-click on the Cisco VPN client executable vpnclient_setup.exe. 12. After the Cisco VPN client has been installed, a window similar to the following will Click the Finish button. 13. Before the Cisco VPN client can be accessed, you will have to restart your laptop. A window similar to the following will Click the Yes button to restart your laptop. 14. Now that the laptop has been restarted and the Cisco VPN has been completely installed, you will need to launch the Cisco VPN client. A Cisco VPN client icon will appear in the system tray (which is located at the bottom right hand corner of your screen). Double-click on the Cisco VPN client icon and the client will launch. Once the client has launched a window similar to the following will
15. To use the Cisco VPN client at least one connection entry must be created. To create a connection entry click on the button. A window similar to the following will 16. Enter a unique name for this new connection in the Connection Entry field (you can use any name to identify this connection; for example, Wireless. This name can contain spaces and it is not case-sensitive). Enter the hostname of the Cisco VPN concentrator in the Host field that you want to access (you will be given the hostname of the Cisco VPN concentrator when you officially sign-up for VPN access). Click the Group Authentication radio button. In the Name field enter the name of the IPSec group to which you belong (this entry is case-sensitive; this will be provided to you when you officially sign-up for VPN access). In the Password field, enter the password (the password is also case-sensitive; it will be provided to you when you officially sign-up for VPN access for your IPSec group. The field displays only asterisks). Verify your password by entering it again in the Confirm Password field. Click the Save button to save the connection entry.
17. Once you have created and saved your connection entry, a window similar to the following will 18. Highlight the connection entry and click on the button. A window similar to the following will 19. Enter your network username and password and click OK to connect. Once you have made a successful connection to the Cisco VPN concentrator, the Cisco VPN client icon will appear in the system tray (which is located at the bottom right hand corner of your screen). 20. Congratulations! You have successfully gained access to the USC network. The Cisco VPN client will encrypt your data via IPSec (encrypting your data via IPSec, whether the data is non-critical or critical/confidential, protects it from unauthorized persons trying to gain unauthorized access to the data you are sending or receiving over the USC network).
