ASIST SUICIDE FIRST AID 19 & 20 OCT 2015 B r o u g h t t o y o u b y the F R T C - S AS W T ra i ning Ac a d e m y OBJECTIVES Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) is an internationally recognised training. ASIST was founded by LivingWorks Education Inc. in Calgary, Canada. To-date, ASIST is the most widely used, acclaimed and researched suicide intervention skills training in the world. This 2-day workshop will enable social workers and related professionals to assist persons at risk of suicide by using an effective suicide interventional model so that they will stay safe and seek further help. The training will be conducted through lectures, structured group discussions, case studies, role-plays and video discussions. Set in an interactive and practice-oriented learning environment, participants will acquire the essential and pivotal skills to intervene and prevent the immediate risk of suicide. At the end of the workshop, participants will: increase awareness of their own attitude towards suicide and its impact on the intervention process; and gain knowledge, skills and confidence to deal with persons at risk of suicide to help them stay safe and seek further help. WHO SHOULD ATTEND? Social workers, medical social workers, psychologists, counsellors, allied health professionals, educators and social service practitioners are eligible to attend. 1
WHO ARE THE TRAINERS? Our certified ASIST Trainers are Mr Desmurn Lim, Mr Frederick Low, Mr Alvin Chua, Ms Molly Koh, Ms Melissa Chew and Ms Agnes Chia. The trainers have vast experience and knowledge in suicide intervention and have worked with different clientele in the social service, hospital and special education sectors. They are also experienced trainers in counselling, psychology and other areas in the social service and healthcare sectors. The course is pre-approved for 60% grant from VCF under PCG (Local Training Direct Applications) and 60% grant from e2i. Participants can apply for only one of the two grants at any one time. Please read the criteria under each grant in order to choose which grant you can apply for. About 10% discount is given by SASW-FRTC to self-sponsored participants who are SASW members. No discount is given to members who are sponsored by employers for the course. VCF GRANT APPLICATION The VCF grant is open to participants who meet the following criteria and conditions: 1. Must be employed and sponsored for the course by a Voluntary Welfare Organisation (VWO) affiliated to the National Council of Social Service (NCSS); and 2. Must attain at least 75% attendance failing which he/she or his/her employer will have to pay the full fee. 2
The VWO must apply for the grant online at http://www.ncss.org.sg/vwocorner/index.asp The VCF Grant application should only be made after the VWO has received notice of course confirmation from SASW-FRTC, otherwise it will be deemed as invalid and the VWO will have to cancel the application online. If the grant application is approved, the VWO will pay FRTC the net fee. However, if the participants do not achieve at least 75% attendance, the VWO will have to reimburse FRTC the balance fee. Must be a Singaporean or Permanent Resident; 2. Must be employed and sponsored for the course by an agency which is not a government body (an acute hospital or a VWO is considered as a non-government agency); and 3. Must attain 100% attendance in the course otherwise, he/she must make up for the shortfall at the next immediate run, failing which he/she or his/her employer will have to pay the full fee. Currently Unemployed: 1. Must be a Singaporean or Permanent Resident; 2. Must be accredited as a Registered Social Worker-Provisional (RSW-P) or a Registered Social Worker (RSW) or possess a recognised degree or graduate diploma in Social Work at the time of course application. If you are a RSW and RSW-P, your name and accreditation period must be shown on the Accreditation Register on the SASW website. If you are not accredited but have a recognised 3
degree or graduate diploma in Social Work, you must upload the certificate when you register for the course online; and 3. Must attain 100% attendance and if not, he/she must make up for the shortfall at the next immediate run, failing which he/she will have to pay the full fee. Agencies and individuals do not need to apply to e2i for the grant as it will be administered by SASW-FRTC. You will be asked to choose the type of grant you wish to apply for. No other form of registration will be accepted. The registrant will receive an acknowledgement receipt via email. Please allow up to 5 working days for processing of registration. Upon confirmation of participation, the registrant will receive a course confirmation notice and invoice from SASW-FRTC via email. As registrations are accepted on a first-come-first-served basis, you are advised to register early. Closing date for registration is on 21 September 2015. PAYMENT If you are sponsored by your employer, please seek approval from your Supervisor to attend the course before you register. In the event of any discrepancies, you will be liable for the course fee. All fees must be paid upon receiving course confirmation and before commencement.
