Master Planning This program will be housed in the Computer Information Systems department. The courses in this program will attract approximately forty students per year. Most of these students, who do take most or all of the courses, intend to secure full time employment. However, one of the primary reasons for this program is that the degree includes some transfer college-level graduation requirements. This positions Merritt College for a new a new AS-T (draft ITIS) program and creates a seamless pathway for students into CSU colleges. The Consortium of Information Systems Executives (CISE) provided the impetus and guidance to develop the Infrastructure and Applications Security Programs. CISE endowed Merritt College with $25,000 for student scholarships in computer science with a goal of transferring to four year institutions. Upon request of the college, CISE Partners decided to collaborate by assisting the college with rebuilding the Merritt College CIS Department Program. This program is an outgrowth of the collaboration and a continuing student scholarship endowment. This program is specifically designed to so an employer's facilities may be used to provide extended training for students and meet the specific training needs of an employer. Amid staff shortage, tech leaders want more computer education in California schools. (Network World May 7, 2014) Leaders of key technology companies including Microsoft, Google, Twitter and Salesforce.com have written to the Governor of California Jerry Brown offering to partner with the state to increase computer education... The lack of access in urban and rural schools also creates inequity for students of color, with the result that in the entire state of California, only 74 African Americans and 392 Hispanic Americans took the Advanced Placement Computer Science exam in 2013, the executives wrote in the letter.
