3 Courses Career Office 2007 Publisher of Project Management Duration: Three (3) semesters (because Career & Office 2007 can be completed within a single semester). Credential Potential: Certificate of Completion Preparation for: CompTIA Project+ Certification: For project managers, the CompTIA Project+ certification covers the entire process of project management, including initiation, planning, execution, acceptance, support and closure. Administration Employment Information The Administration program trains students for certification and employment as a Project Manager, also known as Computer and Information Systems Managers in the IT field. Project managers maintain responsibilities of the planning, execution, and closing of any project, typically relating to construction industry, architecture, computer networking, telecommunications or software development. Project Manager / Computer and Information Systems Managers Job Description Project Managers develop requirements, budgets, and schedules for their company s information technology projects. Computer and information systems managers direct the work of systems analysts, computer programmers, support specialists, and other computer-related workers. They supervise and coordinate installation and upgrading of hardware and software, programming and systems design, development of computer networks, and implementation of Internet and intranet sites. They also analyze the computer and information needs of their organizations from an operational and strategic perspective and determine immediate and long-range personnel and equipment requirements. Employment of computer and information systems managers is expected to grow 16 percent over the decade. New applications of technology in the workplace will continue to drive demand for workers, fueling the need for more managers. 4 Database and Programming Database and Programming of MySQL Linux PHP C# Access Courses of MySQL Linux PHP C# Access Duration: Five (5) semesters. Credential Earned Certificate of Completion Preparation for: CompTIA Linux+ Certification: For experienced Linux professionals, the CompTIA Linux+ exam covers user administration, file permissions, software configurations, and the fundamental management of Linux systems. Database & Programming Employment Information The Database & Programming program trains students for certification and employment as a Database Administrator. Database Administrator Job Description Database administrators work with database management systems software for organizing and storing data. They determine user needs and then set up computer databases. Additionally, they test and coordinate modifications to the system when needed, and they troubleshoot problems. Data integrity, backup systems, and database security have become increasingly important aspects of the job of database administrators because of the growing volume of sensitive data. Desktop Publisher Job Description Desktop publishers use computer software to format and combine text, data, photographs, charts, and other graphic art or illustrations into prototypes of pages and other documents that are to be printed. Examples of materials produced by desktop publishers include books, brochures, calendars, magazines, newsletters and newspapers, packaging, and forms. 6 Digital Home Technology Digital Home Technology Networking Wireless Home Technology I: Courses Networking Wireless Home Technology I: Duration: Three (3) semesters. Credential Earned Certificate of Completion Digital Home Technology Employment Information The Digital Home Technology program helps students gain basic knowledge and skills in electronics. Such skills lead to employment and certification as Electronic Home Entertainment Equipment Installers and Repairers. Electronic Home Entertainment Equipment Installers and Repairers Job Description Electronic home entertainment equipment installers and repairers (also known as service technicians) repair a variety of equipment. The most common products include televisions and radios; stereo components; video and audio disc players; and video cameras. They also install and repair home security systems, intercom equipment, satellite television dishes, and home theater systems, which consist of large-screen televisions and sophisticated surround-sound audio components. According to the Department of Labor, employment of electronic home entertainment equipment installers and repairers is expected to grow by 3 percent from 2006 to Demand will be driven by the rising sales of home entertainment equipment. Credential Earned Certificate of Completion Preparation for: CompTIA A+ Certification. For entry-level IT technicians, the CompTIA A+ exam covers preventative maintenance, basic networking, installation, troubleshooting, communication and professionalism. PC Maintenance & Repair Employment Data The PC Maintenance & Repair program enables a student to prepare for the in demand job of a Computer Support Specialist. Computer Support Specialists Job Description Computer Support Specialists provide technical assistance, support, and advice to customers. This job title may also be referenced as technical support specialists or help-desk technicians. They are troubleshooters who interpret 7

8 problems and provide technical support for hardware, software, and systems. They answer telephone calls, analyze problems by using automated diagnostic programs, and resolve recurring difficulties. Technical support specialists respond to inquiries from their company s computer users and may run automatic diagnostics programs to resolve problems. They also install, modify, clean, and repair computer hardware and software. In addition, they may write training manuals and train computer users in how to use new computer hardware and software. Help-desk technicians respond to telephone calls and messages from customers looking for help with computer problems. Employment of computer support specialists and systems administrators is expected to increase by 18 percent from 2006 to 2016, which is much faster than the average for all occupations. In addition, this occupation is expected to add 155,000 jobs over the projection decade. 9 maintainance, troubleshooting, operation and configuration of basic network infrastructure. The CompTIA Security+ exam covers system security, network infrastructure, cryptography, assessments and audits. For experienced IT professionals, the CompTIA Server+ exam covers areas such as RAID, SCSI, managing multiple CPUs and disaster recovery. Network and Systems Employment Information The Network and Systems program prepares students for certification and employment as a Network and Systems Administrator. Network and Systems Administrator Job Description Network and Systems Administrators design, install, and support an organization s computer systems and/or network. They install, maintain and upgrade servers. They are also responsible for local-area networks (LAN); wide-area networks (WAN); network segments; and Internet and intranet systems. System Administrators also back up the servers and ensure that server data is secure from unauthorized access. They maintain network hardware and software, analyze problems, and monitor networks to ensure their availability to system users. These workers gather data to identify customer needs, and they then use the information to identify, interpret, and evaluate system and network requirements. Administrators also may plan, coordinate, and implement network security measures. Some System Administrators specialize in a certain area, such as security, and they then become experts in that particular area. 10 Aries Courses As Foundation For Higher-Level ICT Certifications As shown in the graphic below, the Aries courses provide the basis for students to either become proficient users of ICT (information & communications technology) or professionals in the industry. Professionals can seek to earn higher level certifications from IBM, Cisco and Microsoft to pursue even more lucrative careers. Aries Course Descriptions Course Title Computer Literacy PC Technician Description Introduces students to general computer hardware and software knowledge that helps students prepare to pass Certiport IC3 exam. Guides students through the basic concepts and technical knowledge necessary for them to become an entry level field technician providing basic PC computer repair. 10

11 PC Maintenance & Repair: Hardware PC Maintenance & Repair: Operating Systems PC Maintenance & Repair: Helpdesk Server Linux Security Wireless Networking Home Technology 1: VoIP of IPv6 Project Management Dreamweaver Photoshop Flash of MySQL Gives students experience in computer hardware repair for vendor agnostic equipment and helps students prepare to pass the CompTIA A+ exam. Covers Windows operating system basics along with field relevant skill sets that help students prepare to pass the CompTIA A+ exam. Prepares students for dealing with technical support issues and helps students prepare to pass the CompTIA A+ exam. Focuses on data center design and installation, security, maintenance and network administration. Teaches the basics of Linux and helps students pass the CompTIA Linux + certification exam and the Linux Professional Institute LPIC- 1 exam. Explores security concepts and implementation as it applies to LANs & WANs and helps students pass the CompTIA Security + exam. Teaches students about the various groups that contribute to WANs, LANs and wireless security solutions that help students pass the CompTIA Wireless+ exam. Professional IT training that builds a solid foundation of network administration skills and helps students pass the CompTIA Network+ exam. Gives students the knowledge to configure, troubleshoot and maintain electronic and home technology systems. Introduces students to the fundamentals of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) communication. Trains students in the basics of Internet Protocol version 6 to help students support the Internet s continued growth and transition beyond IPv4. Teaches students the basics of project planning, budgeting and resource management while helping students prepare to pass the CompTIA Project + exam. Teaches students the basic use of Dreamweaver web development software. Introduces students to the world of digital video editing and the basic use of Photoshop software. Teaches students how to author stunning vector based animations and videos for use on the web through the basic use of Flash software. Access Publisher 2007 Office 2007 Career Provides students with a comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Access databases. Teaches students the essentials of layout and design in the Microsoft desktop publishing software. Engages students with in-depth tutorials and activities for Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook to teach students to use the Microsoft Office productivity software. Teaches students how to find a job that suits their skills, background and personality then prepare for jobs, create resumes, interview for jobs and start businesses as entrepreneurs. 12
