Connecting Tablets and Smart Phones via Router The wireless connection between ios devices and the NavNet TZtouch models TZT9/14/BB built-in wireless LAN can become unstable under some conditions, especially if there are many other wireless signals around the TZT9/14/BB, the distance between devices is very long, and there is an obstacle between the display and the wireless device. To solve these signal conflicts and remote communication problems, a generic Ethernet router can be utilized. The Ethernet router is also a required solution to network Android devices with the TZT9/14/ BB. This document describes how to configure a generic Ethernet router to network tablets and smart phones with the TZT9/14/BB wirelessly. INDEX 1. Summary 1-1 Router Setting 1-2 Network with Android Devices via Router Only 1-3 Compatible Apps by Device as of September 1, 2014 2. Setting up a Router 3. Checking Wireless Connection between Router and Tablets/Smart Phones 4. Connecting with Router and Tablets/Smart Phones

setting on the router. For details, see Section 2. Setting 1 (Mandatory) Fix the IP address of a router to 192.168.252.2 to 192.168.252.99 (e.g. 192.168.252.2). Setting 2 (Mandatory) Set the Subnet Mask to 255.255.255.0. Setting 3 (Mandatory) Setting 4 (Mandatory) Activate the DHCP server function. Set the security mode to other than Open or Disabled. Setting 5 (Recommended) Set the wireless channel to Auto, instead of fixing to one channel. * (1) Setting 6 (Recommended) Rename the router s SSID to easily find the router with an ios device. ** (2) Setting 7 (If necessary) Change the router s Password. ** (2) Note: * (1) Setting the router s wireless channel to Auto will have an effect on avoiding signal conflicts between many devices. ** (2) The original SSID and password are usually stated on a sticker pasted on a router. 1-2 Network with Android Devices via Router Only The TZT9/14/BB built-in wireless LAN for ad-hoc communications supports ios devices only. Android devices should be networked via an Ethernet router. 1-3 Compatible Apps by Device as of September 1, 2014 Currently available NavNet apps are compatible with the following devices. (Ref. FSB14-0007: Apps Guide) Apps ios Devices Network with TZT9/14/BB built-in wireless LAN or an Ethernet router Android Devices Network with an Ethernet router only NavNet Remote ipad, iphone, and ipod touch NavNet Viewer NavNet Controller Planned to be launched in Oct. 2014 Tested with Samsung Galaxy S III (GT-I9300, Android 4.1.2), Samsung GalaxyTab3-7' (SM-T210, Android 4.1.2), Xperia S (LT26i, Android 4.0.4), Nexus7 (ME370T, Android 4.3), etc. * (1) Note: * (1) Apps may not work properly on some Android devices. 2

2. Setting up a Router This section shows an example of setting with the Belkin N300. http://www.belkin.com/us/p/p-f9k1002 If another type of router is used, open its setup page and make all the necessary settings shown in Section 1-1. 1. Connect a router to a PC with a LAN cable. Note: The LAN cable should be connected to one of the LAN ports on the router, not the WAN port. WAN LAN 2. Install the Setup driver on a PC. (A driver CD is included with the product.) 3

3. Launch the Setup page. 4. Click [Advanced Tools]. 5. Click [Network Name & Security] to make detailed settings such as IP address. The Login page opens. 6. Click [Submit] to open the detailed setup page. 4

7. Ref. Section 1-1 Setting 1 In the [LAN Settings] page, fix an IP address to [192.168.252.2] to [192.168.252.99]. In this example, the IP address is fixed to [192.168.252.2]. Note: If the message The LAN IP address cannot be in the DHCP address pool. appears as shown at left, see Troubleshooting on pages 8 to 9. 8. Ref. Section 1-1 Setting 2 Set the subnet mask to [255.255.255.0]. 9. Ref. Section 1-1 Setting 3 Set the DHCP on. IP address: 192.168.252.2 Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 5

10. Ref. Section 1-1 Setting 6 In the [Channel and SSID] page, rename the SSID to an easy-to-recognize name. This setting is recommended in order to easily find the router with a tablet or smart phone. In this example, the original SSID is renamed to [NNTZT_Router 1]. 11. Ref. Section 1-1 Setting 5 Set the wireless channel to [Auto]. Wireless channels will then automatically switch to avoid surrounding wireless signals. This setting is recommended to avoid conflicts between many wireless channels from other devices. Wireless Channel: Auto SSID renamed to [NNTZT_Router 1] 12. Ref. Section 1-1 Setting 4 In the [Security] page, set the security mode to other than [Open] or [Disabled]. In this example, it is set to [WPA/WPA2-Personal (PSK)]. 13. Ref. Section 1-1 Setting 7 Change the password to an easier-to-remember one if necessary. Security Mode: WPA/WPA2-Personal (PSK) Change the password. 6

Note: When ios devices are connected to the built-in wireless LAN of the TZT9/14/BB in ad-hoc, the security setting on the TZT9/14/BB should be WEP. When connecting ios devices to a router, however, the router s security setting should be anything other than Open or Disabled. 14. Check all the changes made. Troubleshooting While you try to set the IP address of the router, the error message The LAN IP address cannot be in the DHCP address pool appears. Change the [IP Pool Starting Address] or [IP Pool Ending Address]. See the following steps for solution. Tips: The router (DHCP Server) will allocate an IP address to a connected device (Client) in the IP range set in IP Pool Starting Address and IP Pool Ending Address. When the error message above appears, the IP address you have tried to enter must be within that range. Steps: In this example, after you try to fix the router s IP address to [192.168.252.2], the error message appeared. 1. Check the IP Pool Starting Address and IP Pool Ending Address. The present settings are as follows. IP Pool Starting Address: 192.168.252.2 IP Pool Ending Address: 192.168.252.100 7

You can see that the IP address [192.168.252.2] you tried to enter is in the IP range for clients. In order to be able to fix the router s IP address to [192.168.252.2], the IP Pool Starting Address should be changed. After you tried to set the router s IP address to [192.168.252.2], the error message appeared. 1. IP Pool Starting Address: 192.168.252.2 IP Pool Ending Address: 192.168.252.100 2. Change the IP Pool Starting Address to [192.168.252.3]. 3. Now you can change the router s IP address to [192.168.252.2]. 3. Now you can change the router s IP address to [192.168.252.2]. 2. Change IP Pool Starting Address to [192.168.252.3] 8

3. Checking Wireless Connection between Router and Tablets/Smart Phones After fixing the IP address, setting the security mode, etc., check if the connection can be established between the router and tablets/smart phone as shown in the following procedure. In this example, screenshots from an ipad are used. 1. On the tablet/smart phone, find the renamed SSID [NNTZT_Router 1] or the name you selected for your router. (Ref. Section 2 step 10) 2. Select [NNTZT_Router 1] and enter its password. If the password of the router is changed as shown in Section 2 step 13, enter the same one here. 3. Check that the connection is established. To confirm the connection, tap the SSID to verify that an IP address [192.168.252.x] and subnet mask [255.255.255.0] are shown in the DHCP tab. 9

Tips: Android devices may just show an assigned IP address, not show a subnet mask as shown at right. 10

4. Connecting with Router and Tablets/Smart Phones 1. Connect the router to the TZT9/14/BB or an Ethernet hub and place the router in a convenient place onboard. Direct connection between one TZT9/14/BB and a router: Multiple TZT9/14/BB units connected to router s LAN ports: A router connected to an Ethernet hub on the TZT9/14/BB network: 2. Connect a tablet or smart phone to the router following the steps in Section 3. 3. Launch a NavNet app on the device. 4. Confirm that the app works on the device. 11

Note: In the interconnections described above, the TZT9/14/BB built-in wireless LAN does not have to be on because tablets and smart phones are networked via the router. However, in order to make full use of the built-in Wireless LAN, you can connect the TZT9/14/BB to the Internet while networking tablets and smart phones via a router as follows: --- END --- - Android is registered trademarks or trademarks of Google Inc. - ipad, iphone, and ipod touch are trademarks of Apple Inc.
