3 The Cmmunicatin Architecture The starting pint fr the Alcatel-Lucent cmmunicatins slutin is a high-perfrmance cmmunicatins sftware suite the OmniPCX Enterprise. This sftware suite includes a set f telecmmunicatins applicatins based n the Linux perating system and can be used, under license, t access mre than 500 telephny services. It can als be hsted n fur types f servers that align with crprate requirements: Cmmn hardware CPU ("rack" mdule) Crystal hardware CPU (crystal shelf) Market standard servers OpenTuch Business Editin server The cmmunicatins server supprts several media gateways t prvide cnnectivity t the telephne netwrks and ther devices. Tw types f media gateways are generally used in the OmniPCX Enterprise mid-market slutin: Cmmn hardware, fr installatins handling nrmal call vlumes, and crystal hardware, fr installatins handling high call vlumes. The RTP mde means that the IP telephnes in branch ffices d nt use the WAN bandwidth fr lcal calls. By using the ABC prtcl, this slutin prvides users with the same set f functins regardless f their site lcatin. (This server is then netwrked, with a maximum level f interperability, with the main server using the ABC 3 prtcl. The net result is a small netwrk nde). Over dialing (DTMF dialing) This feature allws decimal r DTMF dialing n an external line. The user requests transparency via a sft key r by dialing the transparency suffix. If a trunk r trunk grup is declared t be n autmatic transparency, the user may prceed immediately withut a request. Number stre (stre/redial) and cmmunicatin lg On all available telephne sets, by dialing a special prefix r by pressing the redial key, any user can redial the last number dialed. Users f Alcatel-Lucent 8/9 series and 8082 My IC Phne sets can stre a specific number fr later use. The stre/redial key is prvided fr this feature. On these advanced phnes, the redial buttn displays a list f up t previus cmmunicatins/sessins. The list stres autmatically each successful call with called number infrmatin. Cnsultatin call User A, n an internal r external call with User B, can make a cnsultatin call t a third party by dialing a suffix, by pressing a key, r by dialing the extensin number f the third party directly. User A hears the dial tne (r a vice guide) and can then make a call like any ther rdinary call. During the cnsultatin call, User B is put n hld. The transferred caller receives the ringing tne and, if busy, the target phne receives a beep alerting them f the call n hld. Each time, a new call is presented but nt answered, the caller identity is stred in the nn answered call list and the display (r message led) indicates a call was nt answered Callback There are several kinds f callback feature: Callback Request: caller can request it at anytime; callee is ntified abut a request t callback; callee can chse t call back the caller r nt. Autmatic Callback (als called Call Cmpletin): the system decides when autmatic callback must be ffered; the caller then request fr autmatic callback; the system will try t autmatically establish a call between caller and callee as sn as they are available (w/ any cntrl frm caller neither callee). There is n ntificatin fr caller neither fr callee. Offer fr Autmatic Callback can ccur when: Callee des nt answer, and nt frward n n answer, it is named Call Cmpletin n N Respnse Callee is busy, and nt frwarded n busy state, it is named Call Cmpletin n Busy Subscriber. Unanswered call callback A user can autmatically access and call the last caller back (unanswered call) by dialing a specific prefix r using a specific sft key. If using an Alcatel-Lucent 8/9 series r 8082 My IC Phne sets, the name f the last caller is displayed. Autmatic callback n busy phnes When calling busy phne B, User A may request an autmatic callback. User A will be called back when User B finishes the call in prgress. Cmmunicatin frwarding Night frwarding After the attendant lgs ff the last cnsle r accrding t a predefined timetable, external calls are ruted t a phne r the ringing service. Tw simultaneus cnfiguratins are pssible: General frwarding: External calls are ruted t ne specified phne. If this phne is already n a call, the calls are parked in a specific queue. Night service: External calls are ruted t a ringing netwrk; any user can answer by dialing the night answering prefix r pressing the specific sft key. Internal attendant calls are ruted either t general frwarding r the night service depending n attendant chice. Uncnditinal frwarding Any phne A can frward all its calls t any phne B; User A can still make utging calls. The service is activated frm phne A by the ruting menu r a prefix. Anther frwarding will cancel the previus ne. Immediate frwarding n busy User A's calls are immediately ruted t a predefined User B. When A's phne is busy, User A can still make utging calls. The service is activated frm phne A r phne B by the ruting menu. Anther frwarding will cancel the previus ne. Cmmunicatin deflect When a user is called, advanced set displays indicate the name r the number f the caller (internal, external, r ISDN/PSTN). The called party can frward (transparently t the caller) this call t anther phne during the ringing perid. In a Manager/Assistant cnfiguratin: when the manager's phne is ringing, the manager can press a key t frward the call t an internal user and the destinatin may be predefined. If the manager wants t rute the call t the assistant but there are several assistants, the manager must als press the speed dial key t send the call t the right assistant. Frwarding a private line In a Manager/Assistant cnfiguratin: when screening is activated, a manager may frward her/his private line t an internal r external caller. All private incming calls and, accrding t screening scenaris, reserved incming calls arriving n screened lines, will fllw the frwarding. The resulting chice is inevitably linked t the Return On Investment (ROI) that can nly be defined by the client. As the system reliability and availability increase in imprtance, the requirements fr additinal hardware increase. This sectin describes sme f the ptins and features. 7.1 Redundancy with OmniPCX Enterprise The Alcatel-Lucent OmniPCX Enterprise Cmmunicatin Server prvides a unique and secure backup mechanism when missin critical applicatins require high resiliency. Cmmunicatin Server redundancy (duplicatin) allws switch ver frm ne cmmunicatin server t its mirrred cmmunicatin server thrugh an IP link. In this type f cnfiguratin, tw Cmmunicatin Servers cexist in the same system. One server is active, and is the primary Cmmunicatin Server. The ther server is cnstantly in watchdg mde n standby. If the primary server fails, the standby autmatically takes ver. Nte: T avid pssible cmmunicatin server perfrmance distrtin, the CPU hardware must be identical fr bth the main and standby cmmunicatin servers. During nrmal peratin, a plling dialg is established and maintained between the main and standby cmmunicatin servers. Interruptin f this dialg indicates t the standby machine that the main cmmunicatin server nt available. The standby cmmunicatin server then takes ver as the main cmmunicatin server. This service is designed t ensure cntinued telephne service at remte sites. During the backup cnnectin, users can make and receive calls ver the lcal PSTN netwrk cnnectin (see the next sectin fr mre details), and VIP calls between the remte and all the ther sites can be redirected via the public netwrk. The cmmunicatin server mnitrs the links t each media gateway using a plling dialg. An interruptin f this dialg infrms the cmmunicatin server that a failure has ccurred. The cmmunicatin server then attempts t reach the remte media gateway ver the PSTN (via GD internal mdems). During this time, the remte media gateway restarts. Return t nrmal In backup mde, the media gateway peridically plls the IP netwrk. When the IP netwrk cnnectin is re-established, the media gateway switches the cmmunicatin server signaling back t the nrmal link. All calls are maintained while nrmal IP netwrk signaling is re-established. In additin, when the IP netwrk is unavailable, vice inter-site cmmunicatins can be established via the public netwrk. Dialed internal numbers are translated autmatically int public numbers. This mechanism can als be used when the Call Admissin Cntrl f the remte site is reached. Nte 2: Because a minimum f telephne services are ffered fr inter-site cmmunicatins, it is nt recmmended t use this private t public verflw permanently.
