Designed to be effective and durable for flange connections in outdoor, salt and corrosive environments.
Why should flange connections be grounded? Site workers may be exposed to flammable and combustible liquids contained in drums, tanks, piping and other containers. When these containers leak or these materials are released into the environment due to a spill, the potential for fire and explosion hazards is real. Potential ignition by lightning, static electricity, stray currents and default currents must be considered and proper grounding and bonding techniques must be employed. Danger is coming from above ground pipes that are not electrically continuous, such as isolated flanges, joints, unions, or couplings. Putting his hands across the isolator could make workers body a path for any current present on the pipeline See : IEEE Std 80-2000 : Guide for Safety in AC Substation Grounding Chapter 17.9.5 Piping See : IEC 60364-5-54 : Low-voltage electrical installations Part 5-54: Selection and erection of electrical equipment Earthing arrangements and protective conductors

Life cycle costing for stainless steel The expected lifetime of a stainless steel system is more than 50 years, much longer than competing materials. Stainless steel requires no additional coating. No maintenance is required after installation, reducing system down time, replacement and maintenance costs over the life-cycle of the installation. Although initial costs may be higher than for competing materials, such as copper, the economic benefits of using stainless steel increase over time. At the end of its useful life, stainless steel is fully recyclable and retains a higher residual scrap value than ordinary steel.
What is 316L stainless steel? Similar to Type 316 for superior corrosion resistance, but also has superior resistance to intergranular corrosion following welding or stress relieving. Good corrosion resistance to most chemicals, salts, and acids and molybdenum content helps resistance to marine environments. 316L has a low carbon content. Applications: Offshore & coastal industry Oil, Gas & chemical processing Food and beverage processing Pharmaceutical processing Civil construction Urban project and transportation Coated Carbon Steel exposed since 1952 304 Stainless Steel exposed since 1941 316 Stainless Steel exposed since 1941 Galvanized Steel exposed since 1981
Conclusion Stainless steel is an especially durable, low-maintenance material, with considerable life cycle cost advantages over carbon steel or copper. Stainless steel s main properties can be summarized as follows: Corrosion resistance Aesthetic appeal Heat resistance Low lifecycle cost Full recyclability Biological neutrality Only ERICO offers a full range of stainless steel Grounding/Earthing & Bounding conductors Ready to use Lots of applications 316L stainless steel with a large application specter 316L stainless steel with extreme corrosion resistance 316L stainless steel with best flexibility and mechanical resistance.
