About the Model United Nations Institute The Model United Nations Institute (MUNI) is Best Delegate s premier training program and is the largest Model UN summer program in the world. Over a thousand students from 40+ countries have attended MUNI programs held at multiple universities across the United States in the past few years. The goal of MUNI is to teach students how to succeed in Model United Nations, and show them that it is both enjoyable and rewarding. Students should walk away feeling more confident about themselves as leaders, feeling more connected to a global community of passionate Model UN participants, and feeling more empowered to create change at their schools and in the world. MUNI consists of a series of one week experiential summer programs with different curricula for different skill levels and age groups. MUNI runs programs for students from elementary school through high school, and even runs programs for teachers. Each program has a specific focus and teaches key skills needed to succeed at that level. Together, their goal is to deliver the highest quality Model UN training program possible in order to bring the best out of their students.

About the Residential Counselor Fellowship The Residential Counselor fellowship is a paid eight week summer fellowship for top university students or graduates or current teachers with significant experience in safety, residential supervision, and summer camp programming. The vast majority of past Residential Counselors have been young professionals who work in the education field or current upperclassmen with experience working at summer camps or supervising university residence halls. Residential Counselors will be the staff responsible for managing high school and middle school students staying in the residence halls during each evening of a program week, acting as safety and emergency staff when necessary, and managing non academic evening programming and weekend city trips for the students. Residential Counselors will receive training during the first week at Georgetown, Washington DC. Afterward, Residential Counselors will be assigned to travel with small teams of Diplomacy Fellows to help supervise the residence halls and lead programming. Travel costs, accommodations, and most meals will be covered throughout the fellowship period (see Benefits for more details). The fellowship term will run roughly from June 12, 2016 August 6, 2016. Residential Counselors must be available during the entire fellowship term. The typical working hours for a residential counselor will be from 3pm 1am, and weekends. Responsibilities Residential Counselors will be responsible for managing evening and weekend activities for students, as well as addressing safety and health concerns if necessary. Residential Counselors will be expected to enforce curfew for students, create and execute fun activities for students in the evenings, and chaperone students attending our weekend programming. Specifically, the responsibilities include: Serving as evening staff for students, which involves the following: Chaperoning students to dinner for the first few days of each program. Planning and running fun activities for residential students in the evenings, which includes indoor and outdoor events. Serving as a visible and available staff member in the evenings for students to utilize if there is are safety, social, or any other issues. Enforcing curfew for students by 10pm or 11pm every night. Ensuring that all students are accounted for and follow behavioral guidelines, and resolving for any issues related to behavior or safety. Managing check in and check out processes at the residence hall, and assisting with pick ups and drop offs if needed. Chaperoning students during Weekend Trips, which will have predetermined itineraries. Weekend Trips only take place four times during the summer. Serving as as safety and health staff member if students become sick, or need supervision for health reasons. Residential Counselors will be working students from multiple age groups throughout the summer. Residential students and Weekend Trip students will be at the high school and middle school levels, sometimes during the same week. Residential Counselors may also work with commuter elementary school students when needed for supervision or safety. Residential Counselors will receive training on professional techniques in residential supervision and logistics, safety and emergency response, and activity creation. Additionally, Residential Counselors will be expected to study some preparatory reading materials and complete a health and safety training before arrival at the program. The goal is for all Residential Counselors to create a safe, fun, and educational space for residential students who attend MUNI.

Qualifications The Residential Counselor is meant for someone who can bring a sense of professionalism, maturity, and safety to a program that is mostly staffed by university students. Applicants should demonstrate the following criteria: Cultural Values Always striving to bring out the best in others in their students, teammates, and themselves in order to prepare today s students to be tomorrow s leaders Passion for learning about the global Model UN community Open to constructive and honest feedback Professionalism in communication, teamwork, and work ethic Background Graduated from or currently attending a top tier university. Minimum age of applicants is 21 years old. Citizens or residents of the United States or Canada are preferred; applicants must not require sponsorship for a visa to visit the United States during the fellowship term. Must pass a background check upon conditional acceptance into the program. Model UN experience at the university level or past experience working at the Model United Nations Institute is preferred but not required. Desired Experience Experience supervising or working with high school and middle school students as their Model UN faculty advisor, particularly with overnight travel conferences, or in a summer camp or other residential and educational settings. Experience as a Residential Advisor in at the university residence halls. Experience with planning fun indoor and outdoor activities for high school and middle school students (past examples: movie night, ultimate frisbee, board games, etc.) Certification in CPR, First Aid, and other safety programs. Familiarity with tourist sites in Boston, New York City, and Washington DC is a plus. Desired Skills Understands how to appropriately interact with students, identify and respond to issues, and establish safe environments for students to have fun and socialize. Ability to be approachable and available so that students feel comfortable to raise any issues they may encounter. Maturity to confidently enforce behavioral and safety rules and to effectively respond to any related issues or escalate to management staff if necessary. Familiarity with working with students of all age groups, especially younger students. Enjoys working with students and possesses a fun and engaging personality.

Benefits The total compensation for the Residential Counselor fellowship is valued at around $10,000. Benefits for the Residential Counselor fellowship include: $3,350 stipend for the eight week Fellowship. $300 travel stipend for the combined purposes of getting to Washington DC for training and getting from the last program location back home. $50 technology stipend for phone and data usage. Housing will be provided throughout the Fellowship term. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be provided during all weekday program dates. Lunch will be provided during the training week. Meals will be provided if staff are working full weekend dates for residential check in/check out or weekend trips. Flights, trains, or local transportation between program locations is covered.
