1 Thank you for your interest in the Student Orientation Staff (SOS) member position for Marymount College s fall 2013 Orientation! Before proceeding to the application, please review the recruitment and selection timeline, time commitments, and position description. If you choose to apply for the position, please type or print neatly. (Incomplete applications will not be considered.) Applications must be turned into the Office of Student Life (Student Info Desk) by Friday, February 15, 2013, no later than 5:00pm. Please note: If you are a returning SOSer, you do not need to complete an application; you only need to submit your resume. SOS RECRUITMENT AND SELECTION SCHEDULE Applications Due Friday, February 15 by 5:00pm SOS Group Interview (mandatory for ALL applying) Thursday, February 21, 6:00 9:00pm Individual Interviews (applicants who perform well during their group interview will be invited for a second, individual interview) Monday, February March Final Selections Applicants will be notified of selection decisions on Friday, March 22 by 5:00pm via . SOS TIME COMMITMENTS Attendance is mandatory for all SOS training sessions and Orientation events. Dates are listed below. (If you are unavailable for any of these dates, you will NOT be considered for selection.) SOS Welcome Dinner Friday, April 19 in the evening (specific time will be provided at a later date) SOS Move-in and Welcome Dinner Tuesday, August 13 (specific time will be provided at a later date)* SOS Training & Orientation Preparation (plan on working all day, specifici times will be provided at a later date) Wednesday, August New Student Orientation (you MUST be available for the whole time period) Wednesday, August Week of Welcome BONUS WORK! Monday, August (This week is not required but it is an opportunity to continue your work as a SOSer and earn an extra $75. This opportunity will be open to 20 SOSers who will work 3 events during WOW.) *Date may be subject to change.

2 JOB DESCRIPTION STUDENT ORIENTATION STAFF (SOS) MEMBER PAY RATE: $450, plus all meals during Orientation RESPONSIBILITIES SOSers play an essential role in making Orientation fun and exciting. The responsibilities of SOS members include: Participating in all meetings, training sessions, and Orientation events outlined in the application packet; Welcoming new students and their families to Marymount with enthusiasm, and acquainting them to campus services, activities, and facilities; Assisting with organizing, preparing, and presenting Orientation activities; Serving as a leader and guiding groups of students and their families to their Orientation sessions; Collaborating with fellow SOSers to perform daily tasks; Communicating in an effective and professional manner; Maintaining a positive attitude and responding calmly and rationally to any problems or unexpected events that may arise; Abiding by and reinforcing all Marymount College policies and procedures; Providing feedback to assist in the evaluation process; Creating a fun, welcoming environment for new students and their families by completing, successfully and favorably, the responsibilities outlined above. QUALIFICATIONS The SOS Selection Committee considers a variety of factors when choosing SOS members. Although there is no standard GPA requirement, students must be in good academic standing. Each applicant s complete student record is reviewed and utilized in the final selection process. Other qualifications include: Must possess the ability to interact well with students, parents, faculty, and administrators. Be flexible to the unique schedule of Orientation and the unpredictable manner of the program. Able to work independently and show initiative. Demonstrate maturity, responsibility, and professionalism. Ability to respect and work with diverse personalities. Strong willingness to assist new students in their adjustment to Marymount. Ability to communicate effectively and professionally. Previous leadership experience is preferred. Must be in good academic and judicial standing. 2
