LEARNING SPANISH IN SPAIN 2016 s d l o r a e y 7 12-1 CULTURAL IMMERSION IN ALCALÁ DE HENARES Languague Immersion Programme Cultural Immersion Programme in Alcalá de Henares Since 1992 Itinerant Cultural Immersion Programme

Cultural Immersion Programme in Alcalá de Henares (Madrid) With more than 20 years experience in the business, CEI El Jarama can guarantee that all students will receive a quality learning experience provided by a teaching team that works for us all year round. All our teachers are native speakers of their respective languages and have extensive experience in working with children and young people. During the academic year, from September to June, CEI El Jarama works both with schools in the Community of Madrid and in other provinces. During the summer, we provide multiactivity, nature, water sports and farm school camps, as well as Spanish and/or English courses for foreign students at our different centres. We also organise English courses abroad. We invite you to spend a summer in Spain and enjoy the experience of a lifetime. We are confident that if you try one summer with us, you will want to repeat the experience. This programme allows you to become acquainted with Spanish society, culture and the well-known landmarks of our capital, Madrid, and/or those of other cities in Spain. The programme is designed for students of Spanish of all nationalities, aged between 12 to 17 years, and is held in the students residence of the University of Alcalá. You can choose between spending more time in Madrid so that you can discover all the city has to offer (Cultural Immersion Programme in Alcalá de Henares ) or spending at least one week in Madrid and then combining your stay with other destinations such as Barcelona, Alicante or Granada (Itinerant Cultural Programme). In addition, you can choose which language (Spanish or English) you wish to receive the Cultural Immersion Programme in. You just have to tell us what you need and we will help you put together the programme that best suits you. CEI El Jarama offers fun and educational programmes to provide students with the experience of a lifetime, while ensuring their safety and well-being at all times. It s time to brush up on your English or Spanish skills. It s up to you! We ll be waiting for you! Regards from all the CEI El Jarama team We are proud to say that 99% of our students would recommend CEI El Jarama to a friend

Alcalá de Henares Language Immersion Programmes. In this case, the CEI El Jarama team moves to Alcalá de Henares to carry out the Cultural Immersion Programme in this town. Declared a World Heritage Town by the UNESCO in 1998, Alcalá de Henares is located in the east of the Community of Madrid, and is 31 km from Madrid s Puerta del Sol, 288 km from Toledo, 595 km from Barcelona and just over three hours from the beach. This will be our starting point from which to explore Madrid, its people, customs, gastronomy, museums, monuments and, of course, its entertainment and leisure offerings. Read on for more details of our general programme. Please bear in mind that this programme can be tailored to the duration of your stay and visit preferences, etc. The CEI El Jarama staff will be with you every step of the way on this enriching and fun experience.

RESIDENTIAL FACILITIES The University of Alcalá students residence has 140 fully-furnished homes with single and double rooms. They also have a fully equipped kitchen and living room, as well as a telephone, TV socket, parking space and terrace/solarium. For years, the residence has been offering a range of additional services to ensure that students and teachers staying in the town of Alcalá de Henares have an easier and more pleasant stay. Ciudad Residencial was opened in the academic year 1994-95. Located on campus, it caters to students' sports and leisure needs, and provides a range of amenities, services and facilities. It also boasts outdoor facilities and educational areas for conducting nature activities; these were carefully designed to provide a comprehensive range of resources and the best possible learning experience for students studying a foreign language (Spanish and/or English). The centre also offers indoor workshops and multi-purpose rooms for carrying out different activities, as well as a photo lab.

SERVICES INCLUDED IN THE ACCOMMODATION House cleaning service once a week Personal laundry service (3 times a month) Use of the study rooms Use of the sports facilities Reception of post, courier packages and faxes Concierge desk and 24-hour security Maintenance service for repairs in the home when damage is caused by normal use Care and maintenance of the gardens in the estate Garbage collection of recycled and organic waste Sheets, quilt and blanket provided Cleaning of roads and paths, except on public holidays and weekends Wi-Fi/Internet in communal areas Internal phone calls between the homes in the estate and to the concierge Use of the computer room

LANGUAGE GOALS OF THE PROGRAMME Communicate in and use the Spanish and/or English language in situations other than those found in the school or academy where the child studies English/Spanish during the year. Encourage participants to communicate with the people living in the town. Be able to listen to and understand oral messages in educational situations, with visual supports and/or educational material, when necessary. Consolidate the vocabulary already in use and built up theme-based vocabulary. Use the more common language structures in educational situations, with specific thematic content (presentations, descriptions, narration, dialogues). Distinguish the specific messages in conversations needed to follow instructions or carry out activities. Use the Spanish/English language with ease in common situations and communal, personal and group relations, promoted through this learning experience. Accordingly, all classes and activities will be conducted in Spanish or English.

CLASSES Classes can be given in Spanish and/or English. That s up to you. 15 classes per week. METHODOLOGY Every effort will be made to strike a balance between theoretical and practical content. If the programme you choose includes classes, there will be a theoretical part focused primarily on vocabulary, and if you do not wish to take classes, the methodology will be purely practical. From the point of view of language learning, we will try to combine the language content with the development of communication skills for areas like sport, social and city life, lifestyle and the culture of the people of Madrid, always in real settings. To make for an even more enriching experience, during the activities you will be given the opportunity to communicate as much as possible with Spanish people, such as fellow students in the residence and the people we come across on excursions, in shops, etc., bearing in mind that the programme is primarily a cultural one. OUR MONITORS CEI El Jarama employs qualified professionals who are perfectly and strictly coordinated by supervisors to ensure that the programme runs smoothly. If your course includes Spanish classes, these will be given by Alcalingua - University of Alcalá, which has a permanent, full-time team of teachers who have postgraduate diplomas in the teaching of ELE and are also qualified to train other teachers of Spanish as a foreign language. If your classes are in English, these will be given by CEI El Jarama s own teachers, who are bilingual and/or native speakers. In addition, CEI El Jarama, which runs the activity programmes and excursions, also has a qualified team of activity monitors, instructors and coordinators with an average of 12 years teaching experience; the team is comprised of qualified primary and PE teachers, environmental scientists, psychologists and biologists, etc. Each monitor has responsibility for a group of 15 participants and caters for all aspects of the student's health, adaptation to the camp and the other participants and, generally, the individual needs of the child. The monitor assigned to the student and the team of coordinators work together to ensure that the child is supervised 24 hours a day. Classes are held in the mornings, and combined with cultural activities in different parts of Madrid, mainly in Alcalá de Henares, as well as with excursions and cultural visits.

THE PROGRAMME While our flagship summer course for foreign students is the Language Immersion in Spain Programme, which we organise in conjunction with Alcalingua, for students coming to visit Madrid that are more interested in a cultural and social programme, we can offer them the Cultural Immersion Programme in Alcalá de Henares (Madrid), where activities are conducted in Spanish or English and the goal is to immerse them in the Spanish culture. In both cases, they will mainly be interacting with Spanish boys and girls so that they can pick up the language from their new friends and experience a unique cultural immersion in Spain. While the Cultural Immersion Programme will be given in the World Heritage Town of Alcalá de Henares, there will also be excursions to towns close to Madrid and to Madrid's most popular tourist attractions. While we will recommend excursions depending on the duration of your stay, the programme is flexible and you can add, change or remove whatever activities you like. You just have to ask. The programmes include travel and medical insurance in order to facilitate the work of the group organiser as much as possible. We have put together an innovative, top quality programme for a minimum of 10 participants.
