Our School The staff at Nullawarre & District Primary School display a caring attitude towards students, showing respect and valuing students as individuals. Starting School Enrolment week is held the start of Term 3 each year. The school offers Open Day tours and information sessions, or alternatively an appointment can be made with the Principal for another time. Enrolment week this year is between Monday August 5th and Friday August 9th, 2015. An enrolment pack is provided, which includes a Parent Information Booklet, Enrolment Form and a Flyer. Children who reach the age of five by April 30 th may commence school at the beginning of the school year. When enrolling in a school, an enrolment form is to be completed and the child s immunization certificate and extract of birth or birth certificate must be produced. We are offering extra transition days. They are as follows; Tuesday 8th Oct 9:30-11am, Wednesday 6th Nov 2:30pm-3:30pm, Thursday 21 Nov 9:30-11am and Tuesday 10th Dec 9am-12:30pm. If you child is enrolled by the first date they can attend all sessions. Prep children follow a special program early in the year. Children are not required to attend school on Wednesdays for term 1, however parents will be asked to bring Term Dates 2016 Term 1: 27th January (school teachers start) 30 January (students start) to 24 March Term 2: 11 April to 24 June Term 3: 11 July to 16 September Term 4: 3 October to 20 December The first day of Term 1 is a student-free day in all government schools to allow for appropriate planning to take place for the arrival of students. School Attendance Regular attendance ensures smooth progress and helps with positive social development. However, if your child is ill, home is the best place to be. Please contact the school via phone to notify us of an absence or upon your child s return please send along a written note of explanation Our sick bay at school caters for minor injuries to children. The school s policy is to contact parents or the emergency contact if your child is ill. All staff are trained in First Aid/defibrillation and anaphylaxis Individual Student Information and Emergency Contact Personal information and emergency contact numbers are kept for each child at the school. It is important that the school has your current daily telephone number or that of a responsible friend. If this information changes, please notify the school immediately. Absence The Department of Education requires parents to provide written explanation for the absence of any child. It is important that students develop good habits of punctuality and regular attendance. Lateness: All children must be walked in to school by a parent or carer and report to the office if they are late. Early Departure: If children are leaving school early for an appointment or any other reason, they must first be signed out at the front door by a parent/ guardian. A yellow bus note must be filled out if the child is NOT on the bus and clipped to appropriate bus clipboard. Head Lice Periodically head lice occur at school. Parents are advised to make regular inspections of their child s hair. When head lice are found, children are not permitted to return to school until treatment has been completed.

Parent Participation At Nullawarre & District Primary School, we encourage parent participation and provide many opportunities for parents to be involved. Parents & Friends The active Parents & Friends is open to all parents and friends of Nullawarre & District Primary School. The primary aim of the group is to advance the social and financial welfare of the school. Parents & Friends activities include: Fundraising, organising special food days, assisting with special activities, book club, organising opportunities for social activities and interaction with other parents. The Parents & Friends meet at school monthly, the day decided at the prior meeting. The Annual General Meeting is held in March. Working Bees The Buildings and Grounds Sub-Committee organises regular working bees at the school. Families are encouraged to participate as working bees are an essential part of the school s upkeep - as well as being a good way to meet other families. Children are encouraged to attend and help. Parents and Curriculum Parents are welcome to participate in the development of curriculum. A significant feature of our school is the number of parents involved in a wide range of educational activities and support roles within the classroom. This greatly enhances the breadth and quality of our programs. Parents may be involved in Sporting Activities, Excursions and the Early Years Literacy Numeracy Middle Years Programs.

Keeping Informed Newsletter A newsletter is published each Tuesday and distributed to the eldest child in each family. This contains up-to-date information, school news, student contributions and other matters of interest to our school community. You can opt for a paper copy, have it emailed to you or download the Skoolbag App. Other notices, more specific to particular children or grades will be sent home with the children. Please check your child s blue pouch regularly for any school communication. Contact With the School Parents can contact the school at any time between 8.30am - 4.30pm on 5566 5267. Teachers can be contacted at recess, lunchtime, before or after school through the school office. The office staff will check timetables and teacher availability and make an appointment if the teacher is busy. An open classroom session is held during Education Week for parents to view the classrooms, children s work and to gain information about classroom programs. Other special days or nights are arranged during the year to meet relevant needs and to discuss classroom programs. Reporting Parent / Teacher interviews are held mid year to compliment written reports which are sent home in June and December. Annual Reporting by the Principal and School Council occurs at the Annual General Meeting in March. All families are urged to attend. Smart Phone Application We have a Skoolbag application for android and smart phones. This is updated regularly with newsletters, information regarding excursions, special food days, and day to day programs. This is a vital link between school and home. School Uniform We expect all children to take pride in their school by wearing the school uniform. The school colors are navy and sky blue. Our school is a Sun Smart School and as such requires students to wear a school wide brimmed hat whilst outside in Terms 1 & 4. Those students without a hat are required to play in a designated shaded area. Nullawarre & District Primary School s uniform consist of polar fleece jumpers, polo shirts and a wide brimmed hat. Navy shorts, tracksuit pants and summer dresses are available from local suppliers. The school logo can be arranged through Joroni Embroidery located at Norfolk Plaza. All clothing MUST be marked with the child s name. It is recommended that Foundation Students wear shoes that are fastened with Velcro or a buckle if they can not tie shoe laces. Art Smocks An old shirt or smock should be worn to protect clothing. purchased at K Mart and Target. Smocks can be Lost Property Any lost property is placed in the LOST PROPERTY basket located in the FIRST AID room. If items are labeled they will be returned to the owner. Please label all clothing and food containers.

Food Requirements Lunch & Play Lunch Please ensure that your child has a healthy snack and lunch each day. Students are also encouraged to bring cut up fruit and vegetables (2 serves) for the brain food breaks at 10.00am and 12.30pm. Food wrappers are discouraged and are to be placed back in bags to take home to decrease waste and support our school recycling program. Students eat outside to prevent mice. Nullawarre & District is a NUT FREE SCHOOL. Please do not send along any food products that contain nuts. Drinks Students are encouraged to bring a drink bottle filled with water to school. Only water is to be consumed in the classrooms. Drinking taps are available in several locations around the school. Glass bottles and soft drink must not be brought to school. Birthdays & Special Occasion Students and parents are welcome to bring along a birthday cake to share with their class on the day of their birthday. Please arrange a suitable time with the class teacher. We ask that any food brought into the school DOES NOT CONTAIN NUTS. School Supplies School Supplies School Supplies (E.G books and pencils) are ordered by the classroom teachers to suit the needs of each individual classroom. The supplies are in the classroom ready for the beginning of the school year.

Transport to school Car Parking dropping and collecting children. There is a safe car park at the front of the school. Please do not drive through or park in the bus lane. Parents and carers are encourage to enter and exit the school from the safety gate next to the Kindergarten at all times. Safe Routes to School Parents or carers are required to see their child safely onto the bus in the morning and are required to be waiting at the bus stop at the end of the day. Students will not be allowed to get off the bus at their stop if there is no one waiting there for them. The student will remain on the bus and return to school after the bus run, the bus cannot wait for you. Parents should be waiting on the right side of the road and must not encourage children to cross the road to a waiting car. If you collect your child early from school or if there is a change of plan, for example they are going to get off at a different stop or go home with someone else, parents must either ring the school to write a bus note on their behalf or write on prior.

Enrolment Read all information in this package carefully. Fill out the enrolment form and return to the Nullawarre & District Primary School office with a copy of your child s birth certificate and immunisation records. Once we have your details you ll be added to our mailing list to receive all correspondence from the school regarding next year.
