1 Uniform Policy Expectations 1. All students are to wear the College uniform in a manner that reflects the vision and values of Fremantle Christian College. 2. The manner in which the uniform is to be worn is at the discretion of the Principals. 3. The uniform must be well presented, clean, neat and in good repair at all times. 4. The full uniform must be worn correctly and smartly when representing the College. 5. Health, safety and modesty are priorities for students when wearing the College uniform. OPERATIONAL POLICY Fremantle Christian College has a Uniform for both primary and secondary College students. In the interests of maintaining a standard that avoids competitiveness among students or a decline in the general appearance of the uniform, it is necessary that specific details are mentioned and implemented. During the enrolment interview parents are advised of the importance of adhering to the school uniform policy. Teachers are to supervise the appropriate wearing of the Uniform. In a general sense, teachers will encourage, and at times may reward those students who consistently take pride in the wearing of their uniform. If a student is wearing inappropriate items (or wearing the Uniform in an incorrect manner), the teacher will bring this to the attention of the student. Other staff may also notice Uniform infringements. Their responsibility is to inform the class teacher so that they can follow up the matter appropriately. The teacher should also issue a Uniform Infringement Note to the student, or if appropriate to the student s parents, so that they can take reasonable action to address the infringement. If a student makes a habit of wearing inappropriate uniform, the class teacher is to notify the Principal of the nature of the continued infringement. The Principal will then follow through these matters in an appropriate way. Any decision with respect to contacting parents will be at the discretion of the Principal alone. Class teachers do not need to contact parents beyond a Uniform Infringement Note about uniform issues. Management of Uniform Standards Teachers will make a habit of checking the uniform at the beginning of each day, either at line up or informally prior to the commencement of the school day. It is our desire that students will want to wear their uniform correctly and with pride. Students found to be doing this consistently will be commended. Students who are not wearing the uniform correctly will be required to make the necessary adjustments. Teachers will record the occasions when students have been counselled and issued with a Uniform Infringement Note using the Student Record pro forma (Primary school) or a demerit will be issued and recorded (Secondary school). Persistent failure to adhere to uniform requirements will lead to disciplinary action in line with the Discipline and Behaviour Management Policy and Procedures. As a general guideline, the Uniform Policy is based upon issues of health, safety, modesty, and presentation. When non-uniform is required (such as non uniform days or an excursion that requires dress other than the school uniform) the same principles will guide the standards.

2 1. Students (and staff) should wear a hat when in the sun for any length of time. This applies to each term as per the latest advice from the Cancer Council. This is a skin cancer concern. Students will wear a college hat as a part of the uniform. 2. Students will be permitted to wear a necklace and a watch. If a necklace is worn it must be worn under the uniform shirt. Students may also wear a small sleeper or small stud in each earlobe. Every effort will be made to ensure the safety of any jewellery worn, but it is the responsibility of the wearer. 3. Specified Uniform socks are to be worn at all times when shoes are being worn. 4. Sport shoes must be appropriate and suitable for sport. They must be lace ups or have Velcro fastening, and be in accordance with the required uniform style. 5. The girls skirts/dresses (skorts) must be modest. 6. Hair, which is shoulder length or longer, needs to be tied back away from the face (health issue). Hair adornments may be worn to help keep the hair looking neat. They should be in accepted school colours and can include clips, lackeys, scrunchies or head bands. These must be discrete and not have raised appendages attached to them. The hairstyle is up to the individual, but it must be kept neat, tidy and clean. Health and safety issues also apply to hair length/styles. 7. Students must not write or draw on their skin or clothes. Exception is made for signing leavers shirts at the end of the school year. 8. Trousers/shorts must be worn at the appropriate level ie. on the waist or hip. Underwear should not be visible. 9. The whole school uniform is to be worn neatly and with care. Shirts must be neat, clean and in good repair. Shoes must be neat, in good repair and in accordance with specified uniform footwear. 10. On specially designated non-uniform days, students will be allowed to wear casual clothes that are modest, in good condition, are inoffensive and considered appropriate for the activities of the day. Health and safety regulations still apply. 11. On sport days, students may wear their sport uniform for the whole day. If consistent and persistent issues arise in regard to the wearing of the College uniform, then the Discipline and Behaviour Management Policy and Procedures will be appropriately applied. This is designed to help the student understand the importance of being committed to and accepting the College uniform as a required dress code under the agreement of enrolment at Fremantle Christian College.

3 Primary College Uniform All College uniform items are available through the Uniform Shop, except for the shoes, which are available at a number of shoe retail outlets within reasonable proximity of the College. Note that all uniform items include the College logo, apart from the socks, girls tights and shoes. If students are found to be wearing clothing that is not consistent with the standard, quality, or style of the College uniform, parents will be notified and will be required to make a purchase from the uniform shop to replace relevant articles of uniform. 5 Black Shoes Required The following guideline demonstrates acceptable and unacceptable school shoes and trainers for wearing with the College uniform. Note that trainers are only for Primary school uniform and for Secondary Sport uniform, not for normal Secondary uniform: Primary School only Primary School only Note colour and material requirements.

6 Notification for Uniform Infringement If an infringement occurs the following applies: PRIMARY SCHOOL A note may be sent home to the parent or guardian of the nature of the infringement and requesting a commitment to address the infringement. The note will be filled in by the class teacher: UNIFORM INFRINGEMENT NOTE Your child came to school wearing incorrect or inappropriate uniform: Hat Shorts / Trousers / Pants Shoes Socks Earings/Hairband Shirt Jumper/Tracksuit top Please ensure that the correct uniform is worn at all times as we work to instil an attitude of excellence in all aspects of the students lives. Please see the administration office staff if you need to discuss the uniform issue so that compliance can be arranged as soon as possible. SECONDARY SCHOOL The student will receive a demerit that will be recorded in accordance with the discipline policy. Uniform Ordering Process All College uniform is made available through the Uniform Shop, including school bags and library folios. Excluded are shoes and adornments such as scarves and hair accessories. While a minimum level of uniform items are stocked in case of emergency or new students, uniform orders must be made at scheduled times during the year. Please note that there is a two to six week delivery period for orders made, so the parent or guardian must take responsibility for ordering uniform requirements in advance of the anticipated need. Uniforms may be ordered through the Uniform Shop using the Uniform Order Form (for either the Primary or the Secondary uniforms) and making the required down payment. The Uniform Shop will place orders for uniform stocks at the following times during the year: Two weeks before the end of the fourth term for the beginning of the following year.

7 At the end of the Third week of the first term to replenish minimum stock levels and cater for ad hoc needs. Four weeks before the end of the second and third terms to replenish minimum stock levels and allow for orders from families joining in the middle of the year. All uniform orders need to be placed with these order times in mind. While a small level of stock is maintained on site to accommodate emergencies and new student requirements, these cannot be relied upon for general uniform replacement or addition.
