Shere Woodlands The woodlands are commercial featuring both coniferous and broadleaf timber crops of various ages. There has been a long history of commercial silvicultural management with a view to production of quality high value timber products. The wide variety of tree species throughout the woodlands is detailed in full in the table below. The woodlands have a formal subcompartment structure and many of the compartments contain a mix of species. All of the conifer and most of the broadleaf trees can be considered as productive crops. The main species include Corsican and Scots pine, Douglas fir, Japanese larch and various mixed broadleaves and conifer stands. Amenity The woodlands are attractive and easily accessible which makes them popular with walkers who use the well-established tracks and paths and enjoy the wonderful mix of flora and fauna that are found there, particularly in the western section. Part of the North Downs Way passes through the woodlands on the southern boundary. The eastern section of the woodlands is more densely afforested and has fewer visitors, offering more privacy.
