Technical Specilialist - Disability Location: [Africa] [Kenya] [Turkana] Category: Child Development Job Type: Fixed term, Full-time Work Location: Kakuma Grade level: 13 Purpose of the Position: To provide technical and management support in the implementation of Kakuma Inclusive WASH and Disability Project. The incumbent will be responsible for coordinating all Inclusive WASH & Disability project activities in Kakuma Refugee program and to ensure the integration of the project with other existing programs within the camp. 50% Provide overall coordination, management and strategic direction of Kakuma Inclusive WASH and Disability project. Provide Management and technical support to staff, partners and the local community to respond to new and emerging issues on disability including integration of other cross cutting themes (e.g. gender, child protection and Christian commitment) into disability programming. Maintain close communication with the Regional & National Technical Specialists to ensure the project is aligned to strategic goals and objectives of the project. Ensure timely project implementation Ensure the disability project is integrated to WVK mainstream program in Kakuma. Disseminate core documents on national and international policies for disability mainstreaming to staff, partners and local communities Devise and implement advocacy initiatives that will ensure respect for and protection of persons with disabilities. Be the focal person for all disability issues in Northern Region. Monitoring and Evaluation 25% Review & utilize the Baseline & Assessment survey report/situational analysis on disability needs, community perception and key statistics that will guide project decision making Monitor implementation of disability strategies within the project programming and ensure alignment with WHO guidelines.
Ensure disability mainstreaming interventions are captured and reported on well-being targets reports Prepare and submit timely program reports as per the schedule and guidelines provided by the donor and WVK. Take lead in the documentation and sharing of best practices on disability mainstreaming and the dissemination of any project technical reports. Capacity Building 10% Deliver formal training to project and Program staff, partners and the local community to promote awareness, sensitivity, and knowledge regarding access for disabled individuals Support the development of training materials in line with the identified disability needs for staff, partners and communities. Facilitate dialogue and accountability forums with various stakeholders on issues of disability ( community, CVA groups, service providers, the county government, churches and school) Develop community friendly information pack for engagement in Disability legislation and wheelchair user WASH Provide support to mentor Program and Regional staff on Disability issues for increased disability mainstreaming Engagement and Networking with Strategic Stakeholders 10% Networking with disability agencies and other community organizations providing services to
persons with disabilities- participates in network meetings Represent in key strategic forums relating to disability within the program area. Partner with like-minded partner to mark key advocacy dates Support WVKs participation and engagement in development of county policies and strategies to influence policy issues for persons with disabilities. Increase the visibility of WVK on disability by maintaining active engagement of local groups across the program area & county. Others 5% Any other duty as assigned Qualifications: Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience: Bachelors degree in Community Based Rehabilitation, Special Education, Counselling, Social Work, Gender At least three years experience in coordinating community based programmes in an International NGOs/national NGO, preferably working with children/people with disabilities. Good understanding of Designing, monitoring and evaluation of Disability, Advocacy and WASH programmes Good knowledge of human right base approach specifically, in relation to persons with disability, social justice and gender equity. Excellent skills in writing(reports, proposals and concepts),capacity building,supervision and engagement A working knowledge in computers especially MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), graphic presentation and internet skills will be an added advantage.
