Physical Properties The properties of all materials, or types of matter, depend on the substances that make them up. A physical property is any characteristic of matter that you can observe without changing the identity of the substances that make it up. Examples: state of matter, temperature, size of the object.

18 min Gallery Walk There are several new vocabulary words that are physical properties that you will learn in this lesson. You will perform a gallery walk to obtain the definitions of these words. You will have 2 minutes to write down the definition in your guided notes. You will then have 30 seconds to predict if this is a physical property belonging to metals, nonmetals, or metalloids.

18 min Gallery Walk When you re writing the definition, you ll be at a voice level 0. When you re predicting, you may talk at a voice level 1 to the scholars around you. There should be no more than 5 scholars to a poster at a time.

When the time is up, one person will hold up your group s response using the response cards at your table.
