CIRP Research Affiliates Workshop Enschede, The Netherlands 27/7/2011 30/7/2011 http://www.ctw.utwente.nl/cirpra2011

Preface The CIRP Research Affiliate (RA) Workshop is organized on an annual basis to strengthen the CIRP RA network. RAs from all over the world are encouraged to participate and discuss the current state of the art and future trends within the broad research field of production engineering. The 2011 workshop is hosted by the Faculty of Engineering Technology of the University of Twente, located in the eastern part of The Netherlands. The workshop venue is the Virtual Reality (VR) Laboratory of the Design, Production and Management Group. The VR-lab is equipped with the latest equipment in visualization and interaction techniques. This also enables us to broadcast part of workshop worldwide and have interactive sessions if needed. This year s programme includes a pre-workshop industrial visit to a world leading, high-tech company in our region: Thales. Also, as part of the workshop programme, an innovation game is organized to stimulate cooperation between RAs and prime the next-generation of leading researchers. Finally, a post-workshop cultural tour is organized to witness first-hand the effects of the firework disaster in Enschede. The rebuilding gave us a suburb that is currently one of the most thought-out metropolitan districts with its innovative and unique architecture. We wish all the speakers and attendees an interesting, pleasant and successful workshop. We invite everybody to actively contribute not only to the discussions within all the technical sessions, but also to the scheduled coffee, lunch and dinner breaks. By openly sharing your ideas and experiences in fruitful discussions, you will make this workshop a success for everybody. The organization would like to thank the following people for their help and assistance in preparing this workshop: Roy Damgrave, Jhon Diepeveen, Wendy Grootholt (Thales), Martin Koning ter Heege (Thales) and our OPM secretariat.
