Introduction This guide has been designed to provide users of your new Canon imagerunner ADVANCE device(s) with all of the information needed to gain the most out of your investment. The following sections will take you through, in detail, the steps you need to take to produce high quality prints from your imagerunner Multi-Functional Printer Copier. Additional guides are available from the Canon Customer Training and Support department, which will give you all of the information you need to take full advantage of the complete features and functionality of your device(s). Version 1.2 Updated November 2010 Page 3 of 14

Information to Check before Printing In the application you are printing from i.e. Microsoft Word etc go to:- 1. File 2. Page Setup 3. Paper Source Make sure First and Other Pages are on Default Trays, if not this will create a conflict and the machine will ask you to load paper before it will print your job. Now select File and Print and choose the Canon Print driver. Please make sure the collate box is unchecked, otherwise this will cause a conflict and if you select stapling, all of your sets will be stapled as one document. To select options like double sided, stapling etc click on the properties box Version 1.2 Updated November 2010 Page 4 of 14

Printer Driver When you open the Canon Printer Driver the screen above will appear with four tabs across the top:- Tab 1 - Page Setup Tab 2 - Finishing Tab 3 - Paper Source Tab 4 - Quality N.B. The picture of the photocopier above may not appear the same, this depends on the type of finisher you have on your device. Version 1.2 Updated November 2010 Page 5 of 14

Tab 1 Page Set Up The Page Set-up Tab is used for:- 1. Reducing/Enlarging, example above shows Output Size as A3 and across from manual scaling, it automatically goes to 142% 2. Watermarks, example above shows the Watermark Box has been ticked you can then select your Watermark or click Edit Watermark to input your own typed text 3. Page Layout, this is used for thumb nailing e.g. if you have a four page document all four pages will appear on one page reduced down etc. Version 1.2 Updated November 2010 Page 6 of 14

Tab 2 Finishing The Finishing Tab is used for:- 1. Double-sided, click on the Print Style key to double-side, or if you have the booklet maker attached you can make booklets, which will be folded and stitched 2. Binding Location, when you have selected double-sided you have the option to have long edge or short edge binding (short edge is for calendar printing). This fixes the issue of double sided documents printing upside-down. 3. Finishing, this key will allow you to staple your output copies by selecting staple and collate in the drop-down menu. If you click on Staple Position, you can select the corner position or double staple position if you have a stapler fitted on your device. 4. Hole Punch, this key will allow you to Punch Holes in your document as you print if you have a hole punch unit fitted on your device Version 1.2 Updated November 2010 Page 7 of 14

Tab 3 Paper Source The Paper Source Tab is used for:- 1. Paper Source, click on this key if you want to use a specific drawer such as the stack bypass (manual feed) for transparencies, card, labels etc. 2. Paper Selection, click this to select different media types for the first and last page, or different media for first, second and last page. Click to select for Sheet Insertion (taking specific pages from a different paper tray or for use with transparency interleaving 3. Front/Back Cover Settings, click on this key if adding a front and/or back cover to your document. Choose whether you want to print on the covers, and which surfaces you want to print on. Version 1.2 Updated November 2010 Page 8 of 14

Tab 4 Quality The Quality Tab is used for:- 1. Choosing whether to print your document in Colour, Black or White or Auto Detect. Auto Detect works out whether your document is Colour or Black and White and will print it accordingly. This is the most cost-effective method of using colour. 2. The Manual Colour Setting key is used for manually adjusting the brightness, and contrast and colour of a document Version 1.2 Updated November 2010 Page 9 of 14

Please remember when you go back into the printer driver most of the time it will show your last settings, e.g. stapling etc. To put the printer driver back to default settings click on the drop down arrow to the right of the Profile key and highlight and click the Default Settings key. This will put all four tabs back to default settings. However if you click Restore Defaults on the bottom right hand side of each tab, this will only default that particular tab. Creating a Print Profile If at anytime you wish to save your print settings that you use on a regular basis, i.e. stapling and doublesiding, make all the settings needed then click on the icon next to the profile key (see below) Give your profile a name (something you can identify the settings to), choose an appropriate icon and under comments, list a summary of the features selected and click ok. Version 1.2 Updated November 2010 Page 10 of 14

To use the profile you have created, just click on the drop down arrow just to the right of the profile key and select your new named profile. Edit and Preview Mode This option allows you to combine documents from various applications (i.e. word/excel/pdf, etc) and print out as one document stapled/double-sided etc. Open the first document you want to combine Press File and Print In the print dialogue drop down list select the Canon printer driver Press Properties and change the Output Method to Edit and Preview (the picture below appears) Press Ok key twice and Canon Page Composer automatically opens Version 1.2 Updated November 2010 Page 11 of 14

Minimise the page composer and open up the next document you wish to combine. e.g. Adobe Acrobat, Excel, etc Press Print and select the Canon Driver Press Properties and again select Edit and Preview from the Output Method Press OK twice Maximize the Page Composer and you will now see the two documents to be combined (see below) Highlight all the documents and press the combine key Version 1.2 Updated November 2010 Page 12 of 14

The combined documents are shown in the order they were printed into Edit and Preview. Click on any of your documents and select Next or Last to change the order in which the documents will be printed. Once you are happy with the order of your documents press the print setting tab and select your finishing output options, e.g. stapling/double-sided. Once selections have been made, press the combine key. Press File/ Print and your document will be printed out as one document NB: Once you have selected File/Print, you cannot save this as a new document, it can only be printed..
