The overall length of the body has been reduced to the extent that in the fully open position, the disc extends into the pipeline. This considerable reduction in size and weight greatly facilitates installation and reduces installation costs. The disc swings on large diameter hinge pins and a high degree of pressure tightness is assured by the slight clearance on the pivots permitting the disc, when closed, to be completely unsupported by other than the seating face. When flow is stopped the back pressure forces the ball into a positive shut off position. The design characteristics of the Fig. 408 keeps the ball completely out of the flow when open, ensuring a free flow with less friction loss than conventional designs. The valve gives positive seating without the use of springs or other mechanical devices. This product is specially suited for sewerage applications but is equally suited for general water control.
