The company also has specific Standards ustralia Standardsmark licences for its range of bronze gate and check valves and cast iron gate, check, sluice valves and spring hydrant. They feature a stainless steel disc and seat with precision lapped faces for easy in-line refurbishment, or, if necessary, replacement. Metal to metal locked up bonnet seal designed for pressure tight sealing in service and, with a set screw, easy dismantling for maintenance purposes. Temperature changes in the line are accommodated by the flexibility of the disc assembly and therefore do not affect the action of the valve. When being opened or closed, the discs slide across the seat faces, thereby helping to dislodge any foreign matter that may be present. JOHN TEST PROCEDURE FOR FIG. 132 & 138 BODY PRESSURE TEST This may be carried out using a boiler test pump as shown in Fig. 1 or may be carried out in the same test set up for the shut off test if the booster pump has adequate capacity for the sizes up to 50mm by regulating by-pass valve. Connections to the valve are sealed off with screwed plugs or flanges as appropriate, and all air must be vented from the valve before test pressure is applied. Pump pressure up to 2500 kpa and check for water leaks from any joints or porosity in the castings. If the valve body is free of leaks, strike the valve body with a light blow from a 500 gram hammer (not sufficient to bruise the casting), to ensure the castings are still sound. If a satisfactory result is obtained, proceed with the shut-off test. SHUT-OFF TEST For the shut-off test, set up the valve as shown in Fig. 2. Turn on water supply and start up booster pump with the by-pass valve side open. Run water into the float tank until the valve shuts off and then adjust the by-pass valve to obtain a pressure of l25okpa. Run water out of the float tank until the valve opens fully, then slowly add water to the float tank to shut off the level control valve. Drip tight shut off must be obtained with less than half the ball float submerged for the test to be considered successful. LEVEL CONTROL VLVES For water & sewerage. FLOT RRNGEMENTS Standard arrangement B NOTE Due to the damped closing characteristics of the valve it may be possible to submerge the flood before shut-off is obtained if the rate of adding water to the float tank is too fast. Check by adjusting the float tank level just below half-depth of the ball float with the valve shut off. Push the float down to open the valve and then release the float. The float should rise and the valve shut off drip tight. This results in a positive test and the valve is ready for despatch. This alloy has proven itself over many years service and possesses a good combination of strength, wear resistance and corrosion resistance.
