Puccini s Tosca, enjoyed in the spectacular outdoor venue of Arena di Verona, a Roman amphitheatre built in the 1st century and still in use today. A private cruise on Lake Garda including a visit to a Michelin starred restaurant, where lunch will be a seven-course tasting menu matched with wines. Private guided tours of the iconic and beautiful Italian cities of Verona, Mantova and Venice, in which we visit some of their historically important and spectacular buildings. Photo Fondazione Arena di Verona ITINERARY DAY 1 SUNDAY 12 JULY 1ST OF 7 NIGHTS AT THE DUE TORRI Basilica Santa Maria della Salute on the banks of the Grand Canal in Venice. VERONA: We arrive at the five-star Due Torri Hotel, a 14th century palace, and settle in. In the evening there is a talk by Dr Neal Peres Da Costa about the music we will be hearing in the coming days. This is followed by a 3-course dinner at our hotel where we experience some of Verona s finest cuisine. DAY 2 MONDAY 13 JULY 2ND OF 7 NIGHTS AT THE DUE TORRI VERONA: This morning we have a guided walking tour of central Verona to discover the city s history, architecture and culture. Following our morning tour we have lunch with Dr Neal Peres Da Costa who has been engaged by the Sydney Conservatorium of Music to tutor ensembles taking part in the Estivo Festival. Having experienced Verona close-up in the morning, we are driven to Piazzale Castel San Pietro in the afternoon to enjoy a long-shot of the town. The castle itself is now a ruin, but its strategic position on a hill gives magnificent panoramic views of the town and the Adige River. Following our guided tour Dr Neal Peres Da Costa will accompany us to a private rehearsal for this evening s performance. In the evening we attend our first performance in the Estivo Festival. DAY 3 TUESDAY 14 JULY 3RD OF 7 NIGHTS AT THE DUE TORRI EXCURSION TO MANTOVA (MANTUA): In the morning we travel by private coach to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Mantova, famous for its artistic and cultural heritage. On arrival we have a private guided walking tour of central Mantova to help us to understand and enjoy its history, architecture and artistic legacy. We proceed to an exclusive private guided tour of the Teatro Bibiena, normally closed to the public. It was designed in late Baroque or early Rococo style by Antonio Galli Bibiena, who also provided the monochrome frescoes in the interior. A few weeks after its official opening in December 1769, thirteenyear-old Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart performed a resoundingly successful concert here. His father, Leopold Mozart, wrote of the theatre: In all my life, I have never seen anything more beautiful of its kind. There is free time in the early afternoon to enjoy Mantova and to have lunch (own arrangements). Later in the afternoon we have a guided tour of the grand Ducal Palace with its some 500 rooms. Built between the 14th and the 17th century by the Gonzaga family as their royal residence, the buildings which comprise the palace are connected by corridors and galleries and are enhanced by inner courts and wide gardens. In the evening we attend a performance in the Estivo Festival at the Conservatorio di Mantua and then return by private coach to Verona. DAY 4 WEDNESDAY 15 JULY The skyline of the City of Verona. There is an optional wine tour of vineyards in Valpollicella, the important wine producing region, where the famous Amarone is produced. The tour includes wine tastings and lunch in an intimate trattoria with local cuisine and excellent wines.* In the early evening Dr Neal Peres Da Costa will give a talk on the music we will hear tonight and tomorrow. There will also be a talk presenting information about the churches we will visit on this evening s music and church tour. We will then walk to four beautiful churches, the Duomo Sant Elena, St Anastasia Cappella Giusti, Santa Maria in Chiavica and San Fermo Inferiore. At each church we will hear a performance by one of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music s Estivo ensembles. DAY 5 THURSDAY 16 JULY 5TH OF 7 NIGHTS AT THE DUE TORRI DAY EXCURSION TO LAKE GARDA & EVENING ARENA DI VERONA: This morning we make a 45 minute journey by private coach to the picturesque port of Sirmione on Lake Garda. to a restaurant on the lake where we enjoy a gastronomic seven-course tasting menu paired with local wines. We return to Sirmione by private boat and have free time to visit the lovely village. We then return by private coach to Verona, where there is time to relax before the evening. In the evening we walk together to Arena di Verona, Verona s beautiful and remarkably well-preserved first-century Roman amphitheatre, where we have pre-concert drinks. We are lucky enough to attend a performance of Puccini s Tosca at this spectacular venue. DAY 6 FRIDAY 17 JULY 6TH OF 7 NIGHTS AT THE DUE TORRI The Grand Canal winding its way through Venice. EXCURSION TO VENICE: In the morning we journey by private coach to Venice, one of the most fascinating and beautiful cities in the world. We travel to the Piazza San Marco by public vaporetto to enjoy the hustle and bustle and spectacle of the Grand Canal. There we have a guided tour of the Doge s Palace, one the grandest secular buildings in Italy, and St Mark s Basilica. Following our guided tour we have lunch while enjoying the beauty of Venice and then we enjoy a gondola ride along some of the city s picturesque canals. We have the late afternoon free to explore Venice, to shop or sit and enjoy an Italian coffee. In the evening we attend an exclusive private recital with either an Estivo ensemble or harpsichordist Dr Neal Peres Da Costa. We then return to our private coach, which takes us back to Verona. A magnificent sunset in St Mark s Square, Venice. DAY 7 SATURDAY 18 JULY 7TH OF 7 NIGHTS AT THE DUE TORRI VERONA: After our long day in Venice we start our day s activities later this morning. We are privileged to have a private tour of Castelvecchio. This beautiful 14th century castle has been transformed into an art gallery, so that we have the stimulating atmosphere and trappings of a castle, including an armory and wonderful views over the river from the ramparts, combined with an impressive collection of paintings, sculpture and jewellery. The afternoon is free. In the evening we have dinner with Dr Neal Peres Da Costa. Following dinner we attend a performance by internationally acclaimed, Amaryllis Quartett. The famous Venetian Gondolas lined up on the Grand Canal, Venice. DAY 8 SUNDAY 19 JULY After a final sumptuous breakfast our tour ends. Sunset over the Grand Canal in Venice.
