For Immediate Release: Tuesday, March 08, 2016 Contact: Natalie Dale 404.631.1814 GEORGIA DOT AWARDS $88.5 MILLION IN STATEWIDE CONSTRUCTION PROJECT CONTRACTS Contractors Needed for Upcoming Routine Maintenance Contracts ATLANTA Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has awarded 35 contracts for statewide construction projects totaling $88.5 million. These projects were advertised for bids in February and awarded in early March. The contracts include 18 resurfacing projects valued at over $52 million, and 11 bridge projects valued at $24.7 million, including construction of three bridges that are funded from bonds appropriated by the 2015 General Assembly. In addition, a request has been issued for contractors to qualify to bid on 16 different categories of routine maintenance activities across the state. The routine maintenance categories include fencing installation and repairs; vegetation removal, tree cutting and landscape maintenance; pavement preservation; pipe replacement; joint repair of bridge structures; and other services. The requirements for prequalification to bid are at the Georgia Procurement Registry, which can be accessed from the www.garoads.org webpage. We want all contractors including small, minority, veteran and women-owned businesses to know that we are open for business, said GDOT Commissioner Russell McMurry. We are ramping up for extremely busy construction seasons this and in future years - all as a result of the Transportation Funding Act of 2015. We need our contracting partners to perform routine maintenance activities; repair and replace our bridge structures; and provide safety improvements. In the February construction project awards, the largest transportation investment was 18.8 miles of resurfacing on I- 75/SR 401 in Tift and Turner counties in southwest Georgia, valued at $19.8 million. The project begins south of Southwell Boulevard and extends south of SR 32. The contract was awarded to Reames and Son Construction Company, Inc. of Valdosta. The completion date is January 31, 2017. Projects that address safety include: Intersection improvements in Colquitt County on US 319/SR 35 at Indian Lake Drive; Douglas County at various locations on US 78/SR 8; Fulton County on SR 6 (Camp Creek Parkway) at North Commerce Drive; and Habersham County on US 441/SR 105, including installation of video detection systems (VDS). Signing and pavement marking upgrades at various locations in Chatham, Effingham, Jenkins and Screven counties; and Lighting replacements for 3.6 miles on I-75 from SR 247 to Arkwright Road in Bibb County; valued at $4.7 million. February s awards include construction of three bridge bond projects at a total value of $8.6 million. These are located in Banks and Stephens counties in northwest Georgia, and in Telfair County in southeast Georgia. Since the legislature s appropriation of $100 million in bridge bonds in last year s session, 23 bridge bond projects have been awarded.

Visit us on Facebook or Twitter. A bridge construction contract valued at $3.1 million was awarded for construction of a bridge and approaches on McIntosh Road over the Flint River in Fayette and Spalding counties. Over $16 million was also awarded for bridge rehabilitations in various locations in Bartow, Floyd, Clayton, DeKalb, Cook, Lowndes, Tift, Fannin, Habersham, Fulton and Hall counties. Details on awarded projects from the February letting can be found through the Award Announcement Downloads link at www.bidx.com/ga/letting?lettingid=16021901. Click on Award Announcement on the right. Information on schedules, lane closures and detours will be made available in advance of construction activities. For information about the Transportation Funding Act and future project investments, visit www.garoads.org. In their 2015 legislative session, Georgia lawmakers addressed the state s critical transportation infrastructure needs with passage of House Bill 170, Georgia s transportation funding bill. The Transportation Funding Act (TFA) of 2015 is expected to generate an estimated $870 million in the first fiscal year. This sustained annual revenue will be used to fund much-needed routine maintenance and capital improvements. GDOT is planning now so that projects can advance quickly once funds are received starting in July 2016. ###
