Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care CHC50113 This qualification reflects the role of early childhood educators who are responsible for designing and implementing curriculum in early childhood education and care services. In doing so they work to implement an approved learning framework within the requirements of the Education and Care Services National Regulations and the National Quality Standard. They may have responsibility for supervision of volunteers or other staff. Under the Education and Care Services National Law (2011) the Australian Children's Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) publishes lists of approved early childhood education and care qualifications and information regarding regulatory requirements here: www.acecqa.gov.au. COURSE REQUIREMENTS Successful completion of this course requires the completion of 28 units of competency of which 23 are core units (compulsory) and five are elective units. Up to 3 units may be selected from any endorsed Training Packages or accredited courses relevant to the work outcome All electives chosen must support the overall integrity of the AQF level of this qualification and contribute to a valid, industry-supported vocational outcome. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS 1. Recognition First believes training occurs best in a workplace, and our assessment program requires that students have regular access to the work environment. Therefore students must be employed, or work as a volunteer, in an occupation relevant to the qualification they intend to study. If you do not currently meet this requirement, you must contact the office to determine if our training program will meet your needs. 2. Due to industry regulations age limits may apply. 3. If you are interested in public funding arrangements it is a requirement that you are an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or on an approved visa pathway that leads to Permanent Residency (please contact the main office if you have any queries regarding Visa Pathways). UNIT DESCRIPTIONS CHCLEG001 Work legally and ethically This unit describes the knowledge and skills required to identify and work within the legal and ethical frameworks that apply to an individual job role. CHCECE001 Develop cultural competence This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to work towards cultural competency and to support participation of all children and families in children's services. This support includes contributing to children's understanding and acceptance of all cultures. CHCECE002 Ensure the health and safety of children This unit describes the skills and knowledge to ensure the health and safety of children. CHCECE003 Provide care for children This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to ensure children's physical and emotional wellbeing is maintained and their self-sufficiency is nurtured. CHCECE004 Promote and provide healthy food and drink This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to promote healthy eating and ensure that food and drinks provided are nutritious, appropriate for each child and prepared in a safe and hygienic manner. CHCECE005 Provide care for babies and toddlers This unit describes the skills and knowledge required by educators working with babies and toddlers to ensure that the children's physical and emotional wellbeing is maintained. CHCECE007 Develop positive and respectful relationships with children This unit describes the skills and knowledge required by educators working with children to ensure they can develop and maintain effective relationships and promote positive behaviour. CHCECE009 Use an approved learning framework to guide practice This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to enable educators to provide children with opportunities to maximise their potential and develop a foundation for future success. CHCECE016 Establish and maintain a safe and healthy environment for children The unit describes the skills and knowledge to establish and maintain a safe and healthy environment for children CHCECE017 Foster the holistic development and wellbeing of the child in early childhood This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to foster and enhance the holistic development and wellbeing of children from birth to 6 years of age. CHCECE018 Nurture creativity in children This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to nurture creativity in children. CHCECE019 Facilitate compliance in an education and care services This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to facilitate legislative, regulatory and National Quality Framework compliance within an education and care service. CHCECE020 Establish and implement plans for developing cooperative behaviour This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to support both individual and group plans for developing cooperative behaviour. CHCECE021 Implement strategies for the inclusion of all children This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to support the inclusion of all children and to work with relevant others to plan and implement support strategies where required. CHCECE022 Promote children1s agency This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to promote and encourage children's agency. CHCECE023 Analyse information to inform learning This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to gather and analyse information about children's learning, in order to inform practice. CHCECE024 Design and implement the curriculum to foster children's learning and development This unit describes the skills and knowledge required by educators to design, implement and evaluate the curriculum to foster children's learning and development. CHCECE026 Work in partnership with families to provide appropriate education and care for children This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to work in partnership with families to provide appropriate education and care for the child. CHCPRT001 Identify and respond to children and young people at risk This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to support and protect children and young people who are at risk of harm. This work occurs within legislative and policy frameworks and carries a duty of care responsibility. HLTAID004 Provide an emergency first aid response in an education and care setting This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to infants, children and adults. CHCDIV002 Promote Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait cultural safety This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to identify Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cultural safety issues in the workplace, model cultural safety in own work practice, and develop strategies to enhance cultural safety. HLTWHS003 Maintain work health and safety This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to implement and monitor work health and safety (WHS) policies, procedures and work practices as part of a small work team.
