The high seas gazette August 28, 2015 Volume 1 :: Issue 1 Letter from the PTA President Dear Scotts Ridge Sailors, I would like to welcome all of our families to the 2015 2016 school year in our brand new school. My name is Laura Szemereta and I am your PTA President. I am very excited to be a part of this school community in its founding year. Let me begin by telling you a little about myself. I am a Triangle transplant like many other families in this area. I grew up in Syracuse, NY and have my undergraduate degree from SUNY Cortland in Health Education and a Master's degree in Education with a concentration in Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment. I taught middle school for 5 years in the Rochester area before my husband and I moved to sunny NC 9 years ago. We are lucky enough to raise our three beautiful children in this area: our oldest daughter Hannah, who began middle school this week, and Jillian and Michael who are SRE sailors in grades 3 and 1, respectively. I began a career as a Realtor a couple of years ago and my flexible work schedule allows me the ability to help get this school's PTA up and running! Those that have stepped up to be part of the PTA Board this year are excited to bring the best ideas from all of our former schools and many new ideas to create a unique and supportive learning environment for our children and staff. We are all so fortunate to have amazing teachers and administrators to work and build relationships with. THANK YOU for the outpouring of support and willingness to volunteer. We look forward to getting you all involved and successfully navigate our first year as Sailors! Laura Szemereta
