Creating an Accessible Slideshow in OmniUpdate Check out the online version at www.sbcc.edu/slideshow/. An overview of the 6 steps: 1. Create a folder in OmniUpdate. 2. Create a page based on a slideshow template. 3. Edit and upload your images. 4. Download and upload the slideshow player (sorry, there is no automatic way to do this in OmniUpdate). 5. Provide information about each of your images (for accessibility). 6. Download and upload the file that contains the information you provided for each of your images. Step 1: Create a New Folder In the directory view of OmniUpdate, click on the new icon in the top right-hand corner of the page. Click on New Folder in the top left-hand corner of the page. Type a name for the folder. (You may want to use slideshow1 if you plan to have more than one slideshow in your directory. Or, you can use a unique name that identifies the slideshow flower_lecture2010, softballgame1 Leave all of the boxes checked (Group, Publishers, Toolbars etc). Click Create. Step 2: Create a New Page In the directory view of OmniUpdate, click on the new icon in the top right-hand corner of the page. Creating an Accessible Slideshow 1
Choose the Slideshow Template. Fill in the Title of Your Slideshow, Parent Directory for this website, and Homepage Title. Title Location on the Page: If you want the title for your slideshow to be in the black area of the page, you will need to type it in the Title of Your Slideshow field. You can add content below the slideshow. If you want the title of your slideshow below the slideshow with any content you want to add to the page, you would type this in the Homepage Title field. Leave the New file Filename as the default index.pcf. Additional Info: After creating the new index page in the directory, the directory will contain an index.pcf, navigation.html, subnav.html, and a getpics.php file inside of this directory. -- The getpics.php is a special file that will display your images to you when you are creating descriptions for your images in step 6. Step 3: Edit and Upload Your Images The images need to be 400px x 300px, and can be.gif,.jpg, or.png file formats. You can edit these before you upload them into OmniUpdate or use the OmniUpdate photo editor. Go to http://www.sbcc.edu/slideshow_include/step3.php to view a video of how to use the editor in OmniUpdate. Uploading Images Navigate to the folder that you created in step 1. Once you have browsed for all of the images that you want in your slideshow, click the upload button at the bottom of the page. Step4: Upload the Slideshow Player Go to http://www.sbcc.edu/slideshow_include/step3.php. Right click and Save Link As (Firefox) or Save Target As (IE). Save the slideshow_include.swf on your local computer. In Omni, upload this file into the slideshow directory on the Production Server (the same way and place you uploaded your images). Step 5: Provide Information About Your Slideshow Go to http://www.sbcc.edu/slideshow_include/create_slideshow.php and fill in the online form. After completing this, you will automatically proceed to the online portion of Step 6. Step 6: Add Descriptions and Titles to Your Images (for accessibility purposes) Fill in the appropriate titles, descriptions, and image filenames on the online form at http://www.sbcc.edu/slideshow_include/slideshow_form.php. After completing the online form, you will have saved the slideshow-data.xml to your local computer. You need to upload this file into your slideshow directory. This time, you will need to upload it onto the Staging Server and publish the file. While on the staging tab, click upload in the top right-hand area of the page. Browse to locate the file. Upload button Once the slideshow-data.xml file is uploaded, check it out (by clicking on the light bulb) and then click the publish icon to publish this file to the server. This should be yellow if you checked the file out. Click this to publish the slideshowdata.xml. You will not be able to view the slideshow inside of OmniUpdate. You can now view your slideshow on the Internet. Navigate to the appropriate URL to view it. (Example: www.sbcc.edu/training/slideshow3) Creating an Accessible Slideshow 5
