We are very excited for camp! We hope your child has a lot of fun and makes some new friends. We ask that you please download and read all of the suggested documents that make up the Pee Wee Sports Camp Welcome Packet. If you have any questions regarding any of the documents, after reading through them, please call Michelle at 847-448-8681. Please remember to complete your liability waiver and your emergency information sheet and return them both to the Camp Director on the first day of camp. If you have already turned in your Information Sheet, please make sure you return the Liability Waiver to the Camp Director on the first day. Pee Wee Sports Camp--Policies and Procedures Chandler-Newberger Community Center (847) 448-8252 General Information: Pee Wee Sports Camp is a sports camp for 4 and 5 year olds. Our size is limited to 25 campers in the AM session. Camp is held at Leahy Park and Baker Park (please see your welcome email for the times and location of your camp). Campers will enjoy a variety of sports activities including field trips to the beach and bowling alley. We do not offer prepost- or lunch supervision for this program. Camp Location and Phone Number: Leahy Park is located on Lincoln Street one block west of Ridge Ave., and across the street from Chandler-Newberger Community Center. Baker Park is located at Keeney Street and Forest Avenue. The phone number to the Chandler-Newberger Community Center is (847) 448-8252 Drop-off/Pick-up and Parking Procedures: When dropping off or picking up your child/children: Drop-off after 9:25 am Pick-up at noon Parents/Guardians will be asked to always sign your child in and out. Parking Information: Leahy Park You may use Chandler-Newberger parking lot accessed from Central St. You can receive a parking permit at the Chandler-Newberger Office. Colfax St. (1 block south of Lincoln). The north side of Lincoln Street. It is illegal to park on the south side of Lincoln St.! Baker Park Please be aware of street cleaning signs Please do not park in the alley behind the shelter Special Needs: Does your child have any special accommodations to allow him/her full participation? Examples are medication, behavior management and physical assistance. If you answered yes, please contact Myra at x8045. It is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to notify her to make arrangements for any accommodation. Camp attendance will be delayed if you contact her less than 10 days before the start of camp. Accommodations will not be made the first day of camp if notification has not been made within the proper time frame.
Late Pick-up Policy Parents please pick your child/children up on time For parents, custodians, or guardians who pick up their child/children more than 5 minutes late from a Parks and Recreation division program (Pee Wee Sports Camp), a $10.00/per 15-minute late fee will be assessed. Personal Items: We recommend that all campers leave toys, equipment, etc. at home as we cannot guarantee that these items will return home. It is recommended that campers bring a small back pack to camp remember to label it with your child s name. If you would like to leave a change of clothes at the camp site for your child, please make sure all clothing items are labeled with your child s name. Place them in a clear Ziplock baggie labeled with your child s name. Safety Measures: The Camp Director is trained in CPR. Children will be counted frequently during the day. Children will be signed in and out by only those individuals listed on the emergency information sheet. If someone other than an individual listed on that sheet will be picking up your child, please share this information with the Camp Director. Snacks: Campers will have a snack every camp day. Campers are encouraged to bring a water bottle to camp please don t forget to label with your camper s name! Campers should bring their own snack each day we will not have camp snacks available so please send a snack with your child in their backpack. We ask you please do not send snacks with any type of nuts or peanut butter in them or snacks high in sugar. If your child has special dietary concerns please contact Michelle at 847-448-8681 prior to the first day of camp! Clothing-Don t forget to label! Children should wear comfortable clothes they can play in. A sweater, sweatshirt or light jacket is a good idea in case the weather gets cool. Please bring clothing appropriate for outdoor play. Please do not send your child in flip-flops tennis shoes are preferred You may send a change of clothes. (All clothing must be labeled with your child s name. Clothing should be sent in a clear zip-lock baggie) Don t forget socks on bowling day!
Field Trips Please check the camp calendar before sending your child to camp. On some Field Trip Days we meet at different locations. Each child will receive a Chandler-Newberger Pee Wee Sports Camp t-shirt during the first week of camp. Please label the t-shirt with your child s name. Children must wear the t-shirt on all field trip days Beach Days Children should be dropped off at 9:30am at Lighthouse or South Blvd Beach (please see your calendar for the exact location) on beach day. Children should be picked up by Noon. Children should wear swimsuits under their Chandler-Newberger Pee Wee Sports Camp t-shirts. Please label your child s shirt with their name it can be difficult to determine which shirt belongs to which child without proper labeling. Children should bring a towel. Please do not send beach toys with your child. They will be provided by the camp. Please send a snack with your child to the beach. Please do not send money to buy a snack with your child. Please apply any sunscreen before sending your child to camp. Our counselors are not allowed to apply sunscreen to the campers. If it rains on beach day, please call the Chandler-Newberger Center no earlier than 8:45am to find out about the status of beach day. If beach day is cancelled campers should meet at their camp site. Cancelled beach days will not be made up. Bowling Days Campers will bowl at Classic Bowl in Morton Grove, IL. Children should be dropped off at 9:30am at their camp site. Children should be picked up by Noon at their camp site. Children should wear their Chandler-Newberger Preschool Camp t-shirt and socks campers will not wear bowling shoes so they must have socks on to avoid getting splinters. The busses will depart the camp site at 9:40am. We are not able to wait for late campers so please arrive on time. We will not have staff at the camp site to supervise late campers, if you arrive and the bus has already left you can bring your child to the bowling alley yourself or they can miss the camp day. Inclement Weather On rainy days activities will be held in the Leahy or Baker Park shelter. In case of severe weather camp may meet at the Chandler-Newberger Center. Please call 847-448-8252 to confirm meeting spot. Decisions to move camp to the Chandler-Newberger Center or to cancel beach day will be made 20 minutes prior to the start of camp. We apologize in advance, but cancelled beach days will not be made up.
Camp Director Malcolm Scott This is Malcolm s 5th summer as the Director of the Pee Wee Sports Camp. Malcolm began working at Chandler the summer of 2004 as a counselor with the sports camp. Malcolm graduated from Carthage College with a degree in Physical Education in 2009 and currently is an Assistant Teacher in a Junior Kindergarten at Catherine Cook School. Malcolm is also the Physical Education teacher as well. Malcolm has been the Assistant Director of the sports camp, an assistant in our Play School classroom, a basketball coach and referee, and has been the Director of the Spring Break Pee Wee Sports Camp. He is very excited to be back at Pee Wee Sports Camp this summer! Scott Horne Scott will be filling in for Malcolm June 6-13 while he wraps up his school year at Catherine Cook. Scott is the Program Supervisor at the Chandler-Newberger Center and works here year-round coaching our preschool sports programs as well as many other duties. Scott also coaches the sophomore boys basketball team at ETHS. He is a graduate of Indiana University. Camp Staff Hayley Latko This is Hayley s first summer with the Chandler-Newberger Center summer camp team. Hayley is going to be a senior at ETHS and participates in track & field, softball and flag football. She enjoys music and is currently learning to play the guitar. Jacob Blustein-Jacob is a freshman at ETHS and plays baseball, flag football and soccer. Jack Betterman-Jack just graduated from ETHS this year and will be attending Loras College in the fall where he will play soccer (they have the #3 NCAA Div III soccer program in the country). Jack has worked at the Olympian Sports Camp, and will begin his first year with us here at Chandler-Newberger. Ryan Harrison-This will be Ryan s 2 nd summer with us here at Chandler. This past school year Ryan also worked with us as an after-school basketball coach. Ryan is a sophomore at ETHS where he plays Lacrosse. Isabel Miller-Isabel attends ETHS and will begin her first year with us here at Chandler- Newberger. She is a gymnast and enjoys staying active and having fun!
