What s wrong with my Sky box? If you re experiencing an issue with viewing your Sky TV, then we re on hand to help! You may be able to overcome the problem on your own with help of the following guide. Problems you may experience with your TV picture Are you experiencing problems with the picture on your TV? If something has gone wrong with your Sky box, TV set or connections you may see: A plain or multi-coloured screen, such as a blue or green screen with no pictures at all. A rolling or jumping picture. Programmes that should be in colour showing in black and white. Blurred or frozen images on the screen. Snowflakes (just showing moving white dots/interference). Picture blocking ( blocky or pixelated picture, image split into rectangular shapes). If so, you may find that a quick reboot of your equipment solves the issue. Try switching off your TV set and any equipment connected to it, including your Sky box and DVD player or VCR at the mains for three minutes. Switch everything back on, and wait for your Sky box to reboot. The lights on your Sky box will come back on after a couple of minutes. When they do, switch your TV set on, then press Sky on your remote control and you should see a clear picture. If rebooting your box has not solved your problem, then please follow the relevant steps below. On screen messages There may a problem with your TV set up, as opposed to your Sky box set up. If your TV displays the message No Signal then it is more than likely that your TV is not set up correctly. If your TV displays the message No Satellite Signal then it more than likely that your Sky box is experiencing a fault.
Check that you have your TV on the correct input for your Sky box to be displayed your TV usually HDMI 1. If your TV is on the correct input then the problem may be with your Sky box set up. Follow the procedures below. Make sure your Sky box is on Your Sky box is on if the power light is green. If it s red or orange, press the sky button on your Sky remote control to switch it on. If there are no lights at all, make sure the box is plugged in and switched on at the mains. Press the sky button on your Sky remote control to switch your Sky box on. It may take a few minutes to switch on.
Check the cable that connects your Sky box to your TV A loose cable can result in a loss of TV picture or a blank TV screen, but you may still get sound. If your TV uses an HDMI cable, make sure that it s connected to the HDMI socket on the back of your Sky box and that the plugs are firmly pushed in at both ends. If your TV uses a SCART cable, make sure that it s connected to the SCART socket on the back of your Sky box and that the plugs are firmly pushed in at both ends.
If you re still not getting a Sky picture on your screen, then check your TV input selection again. Using your TV remote control, press the button labelled SOURCE (which may also appear as INPUT) to cycle through the various inputs until the correct one is selected usually HDM1 or SCART1. If you re not sure of the correct input for your Sky TV, check the back of your TV to see if each input is labelled. For example, if your Sky box s HDMI cable is inserted into a socket marked as HDMI2, then this will be the source you need to select on your TV to watch Sky. Is there a problem with your Sky box?
Do you have your own Sky dish? Is your dish blocked or damaged? If so, then Call us on 0191 2680208 / 0800 8047464 (Option 2) for further assistance. Are there no visible problems? If you cannot see any problems with your Sky Dish then follow the instructions below to resolve the issue. Switch off your Sky box Press the standby button on your Sky remote and switch off your Sky box at the mains (see diagram below). Check that the power light on the front of your Sky box is off before proceeding. Check your cable connections Have a careful look at the back of your Sky box to see whether any cables have come loose or have been pulled out of their sockets. Ensure that the Dish Input cables connecting your Sky box to the dish are finger tight, by gently trying to turn them clockwise (see diagram below). Do not disconnect any cables from any sockets on the back of the box, merely check that all connections are firmly made.
Switch your Sky box back on Switch your Sky box back on at the mains. Wait 4 minutes before pressing the sky button.you may see a message before viewing resumes, on Channel 998 if you do, press the TV guide button to start selecting a channel to view. Factory Upload If you are still facing issues with your Sky TV, then you can proceed with a Factory Upload of the box which should make sure that the software on your Sky box is up to date. This can be done as follows: - Turn the box off at the mains. - Hold down the back up button on the top of the box and turn the power back on, whilst keeping the back up button held down continuously - Keep the back up button held down until all the lights on the front of the box illuminate and a message on your TV screen; Sky+ HD please wait followed by Uploading System Software. - Once you have the message updating system software you can let go of the backup button. - It will take ten minutes to update the box and then ten minutes to re-initialize the box. - After 20 minutes turn the box back on using the remote control. Do you have a communal system? If you are still facing issues with your Sky TV and you have a communal system in your property, then there could be an issue with your communal system itself. Issues with communal systems can be resolved through the property s managing agent, and are not the responbility of ABCA Systems as the installer of your set top box. However, if ABCA installed your communal system and it is under warranty or maintenance, then we re the people to fix it.
If you are aware that your communal system is a single feed system, then you will face issues with your recording functionality unless your box is set to single feed mode. How to select Single feed mode - Make sure your sky cable is plugged into "Dish Input 1" - Press Services on your remote - Press 0, 0, 1, Select - The "Setup" tab will now appear - Scroll down and select the "Single Feed Mode" option - Press the Right-Arrow and change it from 'OFF' to 'ON' - Press the Green Button to Save the settings - A 'Caution' message will appear...
