SPC Quick Facts College: Public, two-year community college serving 10,500 plus credit students and 6,000 non-credit students. Founded: 1957 Locations: Levelland, Texas Lubbock, Texas Plainview, Texas Faculty: More than 80 percent of faculty have earned master s or doctorate degrees in their field. The student-faculty ratio is 23:1. Academic Programs: Arts and Sciences Division is comprised of 10 academic departments and 42 suggested transfer disciplines, which parallel university baccalaureate programs. Technical Programs: The Technical Division is organized into four departments, which offer 64 individual one and two-year programs of study. Health Occupations: Offers nine programs of study in two departments Degrees and Certificates: SPC awards the Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, Associate of Arts in Teaching, Associate of Applied Arts, Associate of Applied Science and Certificate of Proficiency. Extracurricular: Over 24 student clubs and organizations Intramural athletics Intercollegiate basketball, track and field, cross country and rodeo for men and women. Financial Aid: 62 percent of students receive aid based on need or merit through scholarships, grants, loans or work study.

Start at South Plains College and prepare yourself to continue your education at a university. SPC offers academic transfer programs that parallel baccalaureate degree programs at area universities. That means the academic courses you take at SPC will transfer to the university of your choice. Or you can find yourself in the high-tech world of business, industry, health care, professional services or the creative arts. As a highly-skilled and educated graduate with a technical associate degree, you ll be prepared for success in today s rapidly changing work force. Academic Transfer From SPC you can go anywhere. Through the Arts and Sciences Division, you can pick from more than 40 different suggested transfer options, which ultimately lead to a bachelor s degree. South Plains College serves as a major transfer college for Texas Tech University. Nearly seven out of 10 arts and sciences graduates transfer to Texas Tech. Other SPC graduates successfully transfer to the University of Texas, Texas A&M University, West Texas A&M University, Lubbock Christian University, Wayland Baptist University and Angelo State University. Career and Technology A high tech, high touch training approach is the cornerstone of the Technical Education and Health Occupations Divisions. You can choose associate degree or certificate options from a variety of technical programs, which are designed to equip you with job skills for employment in a variety of career areas that are in great demand. Our technical programs are complemented by general education courses that give you a solid foundation. Train on state-of-the-art equipment and prepare yourself for a well-paying job in the work place. Instructors keep up with the ever-changing world of technology in order to keep you up-to-date with the modern work place. SPC technical graduates have few problems locating a good-paying job. Approximately nine out of 10 technical graduates are successfully placed in local jobs or choose to continue their education at another level.

Personal Attention With a student-to-teacher ratio of 23 to 1, you ll find nearly all of your classes will have less than 30 students. Big enough to get the full benefit of learning from others, but small enough to get your questions answered while you are still in class. From anatomy and physiology to yoga, SPC offers more than 1,300 college-level courses that support its diverse educational program. Flexible Class Schedules In addition to traditional day classes, you can take classes in the evening, on the Web, or via interactive TV. We even offer SPC courses in area high schools through dual credit partnerships. Flexible classes allow you to build your class schedule around work, family and friends.

Townsend, recent winner of the Excellence in Advising Award, knows from personal experience as a graduate of South Plains College that students can start here and go anywhere. Katheryn Townsend Assistant Professor of Chemistry Alma Lopez walks into the class on the first day of school and tells you that Algebra is a language, and she is the translator. She makes math do-able to all of her students. Alma Lopez Assistant Professor of Mathematics Jim Archer s highly interactive teaching strategies integrate music, film and pop culture to illustrate the core concepts of psychology in a fun, relevant way. He also applies his experience as a professional counselor and social worker to give each lesson a real life application. Jim Archer Assistant Professor of Psychology Pete Stracener strives to get his students to think for themselves and solve problems they will be faced with everyday in the welding industry. Learning, playing and working with other students of all ages and diverse cultural backgrounds contribute to the college experience and provide you the opportunity to build lasting friendships. South Plains College is the home of the Texans, Lady Texans and rich college traditions that have developed over the years through an active student body. Your involvement in student activities, clubs, organizations and even residence hall life will let you experience college to its fullest. Here is where you can meet new friends, test your leadership abilities, stretch your skills and learn that there s more to life than just going to class. On campus you ll find opportunities to attend concerts, plays and art shows or participate in recreational activities or intramural sports. Leaders aren t born, they re made There are more than 24 student organizations at SPC, including academic and professional clubs, honor societies, student government and service organizations. These groups give you the opportunity to meet others who share your interests. So make friends and develop leadership skills. Go, Texans, Go! Be part of school spirit and pride by supporting SPC s intercollegiate athletics program in men s and women s basketball, cross country, track and rodeo. The Texans and Lady Texans have a winning tradition in what has become known as the toughest juco conference in the nation. If cheering for the home team is more your style, try out for our award-winning cheerleading squad. Also, check out the intramural sports program, including co-ed football, softball, basketball, tennis, golf and dodgeball. SPC unplugged As a student at South Plains College, you have the opportunity to enjoy one of the best-known schools of music in the United States. Take advantage of the many free concerts - country music, rock or jazz. Share your musical talent with one of the commercial music ensemble groups, or become a member of the Jazz Band, Symphonic Band or Concert Choir. Exercise your options Stay active by taking advantage of many opportunities to stay fit. Thousands of square feet are available in the Fitness Complex for dance, zumba, basketball, weight training, cardio and many other activities. Relax and swim a few laps at the Natatorium, our indoor swimming pool. There s no place like home Living on campus is a great way to meet new friends and immerse yourself in college. With a brand new student residence hall that opened in 2012, SPC offers comfortable, affordable housing for nearly 700 students on our Levelland campus. Texan Hall provides a choice of meal plans and a wide variety of menus.

PREPARE YOURSELF TO MAKE A great decision Once you decide that SPC is the place for you, getting started is as easy as 1-2-3-4. We maintain an open admissions policy. That means if you are a graduate of an accredited high school or hold a GED, you can attend South Plains College. Here s how you begin. 1. 2. 3. 4. Complete an application for admission and submit it to the Office of Admissions and Records. Send your high school transcript to SPC. Also include transcripts of any college courses that you might have completed, especially if you are a dual credit or transfer student. Register for and take the appropriate Texas Success Initiative (TSI) placement test prior to enrolling in classes unless you are exempt from this statewide testing requirement. Get the bacterial meningitis vaccination that s required by Texas law. It s that simple! There are no admission deadlines and no application fees. We don t require ACT or SAT scores, but we highly recommend you take these aptitude tests, especially if you are applying for scholarships at South Plains College. Test scores are used for academic advisement and you might be eligible to receive college credit for high scores. Campus Tours and Advising The best way to find out about a college is to visit it. Your campus tour of SPC will allow you to meet professors, see our great facilities and observe the daily life of current students. When scheduling your campus tour, be sure to request an appointment with an academic advisor who will help you plan your educational path at SPC. To schedule a tour, contact New Student Relations, 806.716.2113. Placement Testing South Plains College offers three convenient testing centers for students to take the required placement tests. For new college students, the Quick-THEA or Accuplacer test is required before enrollment, unless you are exempt from statewide testing requirements. All testing requires preregistration. For more information or to preregister, contact the Levelland Campus Testing Center at 806.716.2530 or go to the SPC website. Student Housing SPC can accommodate nearly 700 students in the 10 residence halls and apartment complex on the Levelland Campus. It is important to start the housing application process early to ensure a room in the residence halls. To apply for housing, follow these steps. 1. 2. Request an Application for Housing from the Student Housing Office at 806-716-2379. Applications are also available on the SPC website. Complete the application and return it with a $100 reservation deposit.

We re Affordable Your college education is an investment for the future. It makes good sense that an education should provide you the best value, especially if you are the one having to pay the tuition. SPC strives to provide the highest quality education at an affordable price. You ll find your college tuition is one-third of what it would be at a major state university and thousands of dollars less than private institutions. Financial Aid 62 percent of South Plains College students receive some form of financial aid to help with college expenses. A full-service financial aid office is available to help you find ways to finance your college education. Financial assistance is available in the form of grants, loans and scholarships. Scholarships SPC offers a variety of college-wide and departmental scholarships that recognize your ability to be successful in college. Apply early in order to be considered for all scholarship programs. ACT or SAT scores are required, and the application deadline is March 1 of each year.
