LHC Gas Systems 28 th February, 2007 Schneider OS-Loader usage via Ethernet or USB. Jacques ROCHEZ - IT/CO/FE Abstract This document is a guideline on how to configure correctly a PC for the use of the Schneider OS-loader.
1 Products 1.1 Software tool: Schneider OS-Loader This tool is now included inside the UNITY environment. But you may download a version from CERN-Schneider-Support In the case of the update of Premium PLC, we need to use two methods of downloading, one with the UNITELWAY protocol on serial line, and one with a protocol xx on top of TCP/IP. One important point is that By default the OS-loader (V2.1) is running via the COM port 1 of the PC. 1.2 Hardware component: A specific connector must be used between the PC and the PLC unit The TSXPCU1031 with a DB9 connector The TSXPCU3031 with an USB connector. 2 Downloading with the UNITELWAY protocol. This is the case for the update of a PLC firmware 2.1 Connection via a COM port1 on DB9 connector. You just have to set the port rate at 9600 bauds, 8 data bits, No parity, 1 stop bit, no FlowControl. On premium, the terminal port seems to be in auto mode. The default configuration is: 19200 bits/s, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, Odd parity. So the speed of 19200 bits/s should be fine (not yet tested) 2.2 Connection via an USB interface. This is rather more difficult, A software driver must be loaded and configured to emulate the COM port1 via the USB network. When you connect for the first time the TSXPCU3031, the OS will request for the installation of a Driver. 1
Windows XP has a default driver. Schneider does also provide a driver. CERN-Schneider-Support 2.2.1 Case of the Portable NEC VERSA. NEC recommends installing its own driver To correctly configure the Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller, download and install the Versa S260 USB 2.0 Driver Procedure: Download the self extracting file and double click on the file. It will create a folder C:\PNP\USB2 1. Click My Computer with the secondary mouse button 2. Select Properties from the pop-up menu that appears 3. Click the Hardware tab 4. Click the Device Manager button 5. Double-click USB Controllers 6. Double-click the driver already listed (e.g. PCI Display Adapter) 7. In the Device Properties window, select the Driver tab 8. Click the Update Driver button so that the Upgrade Device Driver Wizard will appear 9. Click the Next button 10. Select Search for a suitable driver for my device (recommended) and click Next 11. Select Specify a location and click Browse... 12. Browse to the folder where the drivers are located C:\PNP\USB2. 13. Click OK, click Next, and follow the on screen instructions 14. Close device properties window by clicking Close 15. Restart your computer (when prompted) 2
2.2.2Assignment of the USB driver to the port COM1. Usually, there is already a driver assigned to the port COM1, therefore the silent installation will provide another COM number to this driver. As already mentioned, the Os-Loader works only with COM1 and some action have to be performed. 1. Click My Computer with the secondary mouse button 2. Select Properties from the pop-up menu that appears 3. Click the Hardware tab 4. Click the Device Manager button 5. Double-click Ports (COM &LPT) 6. If the COM1 is already present, 1. Right Click on this port and select Properties 2. Click the Port Setting tab 3. click advance 4. In the windows, move the selected port COM1 to an unused one 5. Find the COM port with the description on USB Serial Converter Multi-Function Cable, 6. Once you have it, assign the value COM1. 7. reboot the PC, That all, 8. OS loader should works via the USB cable. 7. If the COM1 is not present, proceed as from step 6.5 for that you may use the step 2. 8. It may occur that a message This COM name is being used then you have to find what type of hardware it refer to, 9. Connect this hardware to the PC and then the COM1 will appear in the list. 10. Now you may proceed from step 6 3
3 Downloading via the TCP protocol. This is the case for the update of an Ethernet co processor. The download of the Ethernet can only be performed via the Ethernet port. The PC and the PLC have to be connected to the same network, either via a Hub/switch or directly with a crossed UTP cable. 3.1 PC configured with an Automatic IP address assignment. When you are on an isolated network, the PC will not get an IP number. You have to set one Dummy IP to allow the communication This may be achieved via 11. Click select on the Windows Start key (left bottom), the Setting key. 12. Select Network Connections 13. Select Local Area Connection 14. On the General Tab Click the Properties button 15. deselect the Obtain IP address automatically 16. Now you configure the IP address, Subnet mask and default gateway (a random value) 17. You don t need to reboot the PC. 18. Perform the downloading task with the OS-Loader 19.!!! Once it s over, don t forget to place back the Automatic IP assignment. End 4
