Junior Golf Tour 2016 WELCOME PACKET
The Oakmont Junior Tour The Oakmont Junior Golf Tour was developed to prepare junior golfers, in our area, for tournament competition in SCPGA Junior Events, AJGA Events and High School Golf Events. With one practice a week along with a weekly tournament, to test their abilities, creates a high volume of golf per week helping create a faster growth of their golf ability. Each week instructors will focus on different areas of the golf game enhancing their ability throughout the month. Testing those abilities in weekly tournament play helps the students grow their games and helps instructors pin point weaker areas that need to be addressed. We have added physical fitness routines that will be working on golf fitness to build athleticism. This golf fitness class will be once per month and will give your juniors some fun exercises to do on their off days. The junior tour creates lasting relationships between students and a great sense of community amongst the parents. We are glad you have joined us and taken the first step in enhancing your junior s golf skills. The Three Tours "Climb your way to the top" Titleist Tour Skill Level: Beginner 1 This is our beginner s tour and the starting point for all juniors coming into the junior tour. This tour plays 3 holes with a maximum score of 10 per hole. This tour plays from forward tees placed in the fairway reducing the yardage of the hole to be just challenging enough for their skill level without the feeling of becoming overwhelmed with the distance of the hole. At this opening level we are very lenient with the rules of golf. We allow the juniors to drop the ball from the hazards and the bunkers at the point of entry with no penalty. Also, we do not count swings that don't touch the golf ball. Callaway Tour Skill Level: Intermediate 1 Once juniors reach this tour they can start feeling the full length of the golf course. This tour plays from the Red tees playing 6 holes and there is no maximum score per hole. All strokes count. At this level juniors are able to take proper relief from hazards and cart paths. Juniors should have knowledge in the rules and be able to assign penalty strokes amongst themselves. They will keep their own scores and govern themselves. Taylormade Tour Skill Level: Advanced Welcome to "The Show" After grinding away through the tours juniors have qualified themselves into the final tour. This tour plays from the White/Green tees playing all 9 holes with no maximum score per hole. All juniors playing at this level understand the rules of golf and are able to govern themselves throughout the tournament. They should now be comfortable playing competitive golf and have a drive to stay at this level and win.
Practices and Tournaments Practices will be held on either Tuesdays or Fridays from 4PM to 5PM, depending on the tournament schedule at Oakmont CC. Each practice the golf instructors will focus on a different area of the golf swing and once a month there will be a golf fitness class. At the beginning of each month parents will have an itinerary for each practice so they know where to drop off their juniors. We encourage parents to stay and watch the practice to see what we are working on and to know what your junior needs to work on during off days. Practices are not mandatory and we will not be taking roll call. These practices are there for you to improve your golf game and it's up to you to make the commitment to be there and practice. Tournaments are every Saturday and throughout the year the time will change depending on the light. Prior to each tournament parents will receive an email with a roster showing each junior and what tour they will be playing in. Upon completion of the event we will gather around the golf shop to turn in scorecards and view results. The final tournament of the month is when medals and trophies are passed out to the juniors. Tournament Point System & Climbing Tours Once each player has been placed in their correct tour they will play against other juniors placed in the same tour. How players move up the tour and/or down the tour is dependent upon the tournament score for the day. The top score and ties will move up a tour and the bottom score and ties will move down a tour. Moving up and down the tour is solely based on tournament performance. At the end of each session, during the final tournament date, we pass out all first place medals and crown our monthly champion. Tournament Point System First Place Second Place Third Place Fourth Place 400 PTS 300 PTS 200 PTS 100 PTS
The player at the end of the month with the most accumulated points will be crowned the champion for the month. These points are important because at the end of the year the junior with the most amounts of points will be crowned the 2015 Junior Tour Champion of the Year. Parent participation It is very important that the parents stay involved with the junior s growth in the game of golf. When the instructors spend one on one time with the junior helping the swings that is the time to be present and understand what your junior is working on. That way you can help your junior when they are practicing on their own. From experience, the juniors who dedicate more time at the facility practicing hitting golf balls and working on their short game advance their game quicker, and with the parents positive reinforcement of the juniors through times that can become challenging and frustrating. So, we highly encourage you to ask questions during the one on one times that juniors typically won't ask. During tournament dates the parent involvement depends on the tour your junior is in. Below is the parent involvement for each tour. Titleist Tour In this tour the parent involvement is crucial. Helping your kid s line up shots, green reading, club selection and helping with yardage is encouraged. At this level you can also help them keep score correctly and keep up with the group ahead of them. Callaway Tour At this level parents are able to answer basic on course questions. In this tour the juniors keep their own score but may confirm with parents the score being posted. Also, parents are allowed to help their juniors with proper dropping procedures and help enforce penalty shots. Taylormade Tour Once your junior reaches this stage there will be NO PARENT INVOLVEMENT. Parents may not speak or make any suggestions that will give an advantage to the juniors. You are unable to help with pace of play but be basically a fly on the wall. Penalties for breach of any of the above statement will enforce a 1 stroke penalty to the junior and we will escort the parent back to the clubhouse to wait for the completion of the tournament. These rules for parents at this level we know are very strict but it's for the good of your junior. Please remember this tour is to prepare them for high level junior events in which usually parents aren't even allowed on the golf course. If there is a situation where we ask you to wait at the clubhouse for the completion of the event please do not take it personal it is only to help your juniors learn and grow their games.
