CLAUSES AND PHRASES OF REASON When you want to explain why something happens, you can use a clause of reason introduced by a conjunction (because, as and since) or a phrase introduced by because of. Daniel joined the English Drama Club because / as/ since he wanted to improve his intonation. As / Since/ Because Daniel wanted to improve his intonation, he joined the English Drama club. Use a comma when the clause or phrase of reason is at the begging of the sentence. Since I cleaned my bedroom yesterday, I don t need to clean it today. CLAUSES OF RESULT When you want to indicate the result of an action or situation, you can use a clause of result. Clauses of result are introduced by so, and so, as a result, consequently, for this / that reason, thus, therefore. I had to work, so I couldn t go fishing last Saturday. So and and so usually link ideas in a single sentence and are the most common connectors. The other connectors usually connect ideas in two separate sentences. Paul had a fever; consequently, he stayed at home. He travelled as quickly as possible. Thus, he reached Chicago the next day. A- Choose a suitable connector for each sentence.
