District 203 K-4 Elementary Summer School 2016 REGISTRATION WILL OPEN MONDAY, JANUARY 11, 2016 School District 203 is now offering a 6-week summer learning experience for elementary students grades K-4. Students may register for either 3-week session on its own, but 6 weeks is NORTH LOCATION SOUTH LOCATION (For students in the NNHS attendance zone) (For students in the NCHS attendance zone) Beebe Elementary School Meadow Glens Elementary School 110 East 11 th Avenue 1150 Muirhead Ave. Naperville, IL 60563 Naperville, IL 60565 Dates: Semester 1- June 6-June 24, Semester 2- June 27-July 15 (no school on July 4) Days: All classes meet Monday-Friday Session 1: 8:30 a.m. 10:00 a.m. Session 2: 10:30 a.m. 12:00 p.m. Contact number: 630-637-7346 (Calls are returned after 3:30 p.m. M-F) Tuition for each course registered for: Resident $170/Non-resident $255 Transportation fee: $25 per semester NOTE: There is a non-refundable registration fee of $25. After May 1, 2016, a $10 late fee will be added. No refunds will be granted after June 8 th for 1 st semester classes, and after June 29 th for second semester classes Registration with transportation needs to be completed by May 16, 2016 to be included in transportation route planning. Registration with transportation after May 16, 2016 will be limited to established routes. SUMMER SCHOOL TRANSPORTATION: Transportation will be available for $25 per semester for qualifying District 203 residents. Registration received prior to May 16, 2016 will be used to construct bus routes. Bus routes are unique to summer enrollment and may not reflect the established routes of the regular school year. Registrations that include transportation submitted after May 16, 2016 will not be considered in the development of bus routes; however students will be able to join an existing route once they are posted. This transportation is ONLY available for Summer School Session 1 arrival, which occurs at 8:30 a.m. and at the end of Session 2, which is at 12:00 p.m. Students will only be transported to the Elementary location in their high school attendance zone. Eligibility for transportation will follow the regular school year bussing policies found at: http://www.naperville203.org/domain/874 ALTERNATE BUS STOP INFORMATION Students who are regularly transported to or from a bus stop other than the one assigned for their home address must have a signed, current request on file at the District's transportation office. This form is required when a day care is used and the student must be picked up or dropped off at an alternate location. This form is required to be filed annually or whenever a change is made and must be filled out for summer school even if it was already filled out for the regular academic school year. Forms must be received by May 16, 2016 in order to be processed for the first day of school. Requests received after school has started may require up to 3 days processing time. ELEMENTARY COURSE DESCRIPTIONS KINDERGARTEN COURSES All kindergarten courses are available to those students who have completed kindergarten. BRIGHT FUTURES KINDER LITERACY This course has been designed for those students who received needs more time/beginning or shows growth and progress/approaching on the Kindergarten Supplement. The curriculum for this course is aligned to District 203 LITERACY for kindergarten. This course will provide your child with interactive experiences that focus on key kindergarten content. Students will continue their learning through the use of direct instruction, technology, educational games, and flexible grouping. Focus areas of instruction will include foundational reading skills and strategies, studying the features of both fiction and nonfiction, as well as opportunities to read texts at their independent and instructional levels. Writing is a key component of this course. Using the workshop model, students will use letter/sound knowledge and conventions to author their own stories. This course is designed for a 6-week experience. Students may register for either 3-week session on its own, but 6-weeks is KINDER-UP LITERACY This course is designed to augment and enrich current skills and strategies in all areas of literacy for students exiting Kindergarten at or above grade level. The curriculum for this course is aligned to District 203 LITERACY for kindergarten. This course is designed for a 6-week experience. Students may register for either 3-week session on its own, but 6-weeks is DIVING DEEPER KINDER MATH This course has been designed for those students who received needs more time/beginning or shows growth and progress/approaching on the Kindergarten Supplement. The curriculum for this course is aligned to District 203 MATH for kindergarten. This course will provide your child with interactive experiences that focus on key kindergarten content. Your child will continue his/her learning through the use of direct instruction, technology, educational games, and flexible grouping. Students will focus on building their number sense, adding and subtracting within 10, building fluency within 5, and identifying and sequencing numbers. This course is designed for a 6-week experience. Students may register for either 3-week session on its own, but 6-weeks is KINDER-UP MATH This course is designed to augment and enrich current skills and strategies in all areas of math for students exiting Kindergarten at or above grade level. The curriculum for this course is aligned to District 203 Math for kindergarten. This course is designed for a 6-week experience. The curriculum for this course is aligned to District 203 LITERACY for first grade. This course will provide your child with interactive experiences that focus on key first grade content. Your child will continue his/her learning through the use of direct instruction, technology, educational games, and flexible grouping. Students will focus on reading and writing first grade high frequency words, developing multiple decoding strategies, identifying patterns within words to improve reading and writing ability. This course is designed for a 6-week experience. Students may register for either 3-week session on its own, but 6-weeks is FIRST GRADE READING MOVING FORWARD This course has been designed for those students who have completed first grade and are meeting academic expectations in reading. This course offers first grade students multiple opportunities that will propel them to achieve a greater understanding of text through higher level thinking skills. Students will experience a balanced exposure to literary and informational text. The curriculum for this course is aligned to District 203 LITERACY for first grade. This course is designed for a 6-week experience. The academic focus of this course is literacy based (reading, writing, and participation in a Reader s Theater production presented to parents). This course is open to students of all ability levels. The curriculum for this course is aligned to District 203 LITERACY for third and fourth grade. This course is designed for a 6-week or 10:30 a.m.- 12:00 p.m. YOUNG AUTHORS: FIRST AND SECOND GRADE WRITERS This workshop is designed to develop and expand individual writing skills for first and second grade students. MATH COURSES- Grades 1-4 All courses are available to those students who have completed the grade level listed in the course title. DIVING DEEPER FIRST GRADE MATH needs more time/beginning or shows growth and progress/approaching on the First Grade Supplement. The curriculum for this course is aligned to District 203 MATHEMATICS for first grade. This course will provide your child with interactive experiences that focus on key first grade content. Your child will continue his/her learning through the use of direct instruction, technology, educational games, and flexible grouping. Students will focus on building their number sense, adding and subtracting within 20, building fluency within 10, identifying unknown partners and totals within equations and story problems, and reading and writing numbers to 131. This course is designed for a 6-week FIRST GRADE MATH MOVING FORWARD This course has been designed for those students who have completed first grade and are meeting academic expectations in math. This course offers students multiple opportunities to strengthen and expand their thinking when working mathematical problems they may encounter in real-world situations. Students will share their critical thinking skills with peers in a collaborative learning environment discussing strategies used during their problem solving journey. The curriculum for this course is aligned to District 203 MATHEMATICS for first grade. This course is designed for a 6-week DIVING DEEPER SECOND GRADE MATH needs more time/beginning or shows growth and progress/approaching on the Second Grade Supplement. The curriculum for this course is aligned to District 203 MATHEMATICS for second grade. This course will build a deeper understanding of key second grade math skills. Students will focus on understanding place value using concrete manipulatives and tools. Additionally, students will explore the relationship between addition and subtraction through problem solving. Students will also be exposed to foundational multiplication in preparation for third grade. Lastly, resources will be created to take home to practice skills throughout the year. This course is designed for a 6-week SECOND GRADE MATH MOVING FORWARD This course has been designed for those students who have completed second grade and are meeting academic expectations in math. This course offers students multiple opportunities to strengthen and expand their thinking when working mathematical problems they may encounter in real-world situations. Students will share their critical thinking skills with peers in a collaborative learning environment discussing strategies used during their problem solving journey. The curriculum for this course is aligned to District 203 MATHEMATICS for second grade. This course is designed for a 6-week DIVING DEEPER THIRD GRADE MATH needs more time/beginning or shows growth and progress/approaching on the Third Grade Supplement.
