Lesson 1 An introduction to the Sports Leaders UK Level 2 Award in Community Sports Leadership

Understand what the course involves Gain insight into the demands of the course expectations and assessment Understand what makes a good sports leader Begin to consider and develop a high level of organisational skills

Principles and practice in running events and competitions 6. Adapting sports activities 7. Select, plan and lead on an activity 8. Demonstrate leadership skills in the community

Task In your group, nominate a scribe and someone to feedback your ideas to the class at the end. Split the flipchart paper in half and write what a sports leader should be on one side and should not be in the other. You must be able to justify your answers.

By the end of this unit, you must demonstrate competence in: Planning for and making arrangements for sporting and recreational activity sessions Preparing and organising facilities, equipment and participants for activity sessions Leading a variety of activity sessions demonstrating: * observation and evaluation skills * effective communication skills with participants * knowledge of the activity * effective delivery of the session plan and the ability to improvise Developing effective working relationships with participants Working as part as a team to organise a sporting event
