1 SCHOOL SPORT ORGANISING COMMITTEE TRAINING Handout 2.
2 Head of Committee Represent the Committee in school meetings. Liaise with school or college staff. Lead meetings and ensuring all members have an opportunity to contribute. Ensure decisions are made and actions agreed. Ensure the main tasks of the Committee are carried out. Motivate the Committee. Confident at public speaking. Administration Representative Plan and schedule meetings. Produce reports as appropriate. Call meetings, prepare the agenda, take brief minutes and provide officers with copies. Book rooms for Committee meetings and venues for competition. Act as the main point of contact for the Committees. Efficient and well organised. Good verbal and written skills. Sound knowledge of sport in the school or college Administration skills desirable. Good working knowledge of Microsoft Word and minute taking desirable. Treasurer Responsible for Committee finances. Monitor the budget. Issue receipts and keep records of all monies received. Plan the annual budget in agreement with Committee. Keep up-to-date records of all transactions. Prepare the end of year accounts. Good with numbers and spreadsheets. Used to making tough decisions. Reliable and honest. Marketing and Promotion Officer Promote and publicise, in a positive way all aspects of the Committee s work. Liaise with school/college media team and the local media. Produce marketing/ promotional material. Produce reports for Senior Leadership Team and Governors. Produce a termly newsletter. Announce opportunities in assemblies, and organise messages to promote activities in tutorials. Organise publicity material (posters, photo, video). Responsible for recruiting, co-ordinating, rewarding and recognising: sports photographers. sports reporters. Enjoys sharing how good things are and recording them. Good at report writing. Has an eye for detail. Sound knowledge of the school or college. Confident and effective communicator. Confident at public speaking. An interest in marketing and promotion.
3 Recruitment Officer Inclusion Officer Planning Officer Event Organiser Research what opportunities young people want to do, in what format and when they want to do them. Develop ways to acknowledge and recognise participation. Responsible for recruiting year group co-ordinators to support recruiting of students to attend activities/clubs/events. Responsible for recruiting volunteers to support the delivery of activity. Ensure there are a sufficient range of opportunities in a range of formats. Encourage challenging groups to plan competitions for themselves. Develop expertise in competitions specifically designed to include young disabled people. Liaise with the PE staff to ensure the School Sport Organising Committee events/ competitions are well integrated. Liaise with the PE department around use of school facilities and equipment. Liaise with the Teacher Release postholder and the School Games Organiser. Plan each event/competition in detail. Be the main person responsible at the event/competition. Be the first and main point of contact for all decisions. Liaise with all partners involved. Responsible for recruiting sport specific experts to support with the delivery of sport specific events/competitions. Interested in undertaking research/consultation. Good at motivating other young people. Good listener. Excellent communicator. Creative. Sensitive and knowledgeable around equity issues. Excellent communicator. Has an overview of recruitment, co-ordination of: Team Managers, coaches, officials and judges, timekeepers and scorers, fair play officer, record keepers, Club Managers. Good with people. 5 Officials and Judges Fair Play Officer Enforce the rules of the activity. Be able to keep the scores/results of a game/activity to pass on to the sport administrators. Check that the equipment and space is safe, set up and put away correctly. Encourage friendship and fair play. Check players have appropriate kit. Be firm, fair and consistent when making decisions. Develop a culture of values and fair play. Coach others how to identify the values/spirit being lived out. Develop rewards and recognition for those attributing the values/spirit. Help develop codes of conduct and plans to see them implemented. Knows and understands the rules of the game/activity. Good under pressure.
