THE NEW FORMULA 60 ACI/CSAI KARTING NEWS 2013 The relaunch of kart racing in Italy begins from the category reserved to kids aged 8-9. In fact, ACI/CSAI has proposed a new promotional initiative featuring the fully equipped rental kart. The hired karts are comparable to those racing in the "Baby" category. This new Formula is going to be tested this year in the three halfseason rounds of the 2013 CSAI Italian Karting Championship: 23rd June in Val Vibrata, 28th July at the Circuit of Siena, 15th September at the South Garda Karting of Lonato. THE CATEGORY The new category, reserved to kids aged 8-9 with a class E licence, is called Formula 60 ACI/CSAI Karting and it will be managed on track by Birel S.p.a., which won the tender called by ACI/CSAI. Birel will supply, according to the results of the random drawing, the chassis and the engine to all the entrants, besides slick tyres (three front and three rear tyres). Birel will supply also a reserved area in its motorhome and a security pass. Race supply includes seats, which will belong to drivers until the end of the three rounds, and a spare set of wheel-rims in case of rain. The programme for each appointment includes heats and final on three days, from Friday to Sunday. CHARACTERISTICS The karts supplied by Birel are 60 Easykart in compliance with the technical regulations of the Trophy promoted by Birel. Drawing for chassis and engine is held on Friday morning. To guarantee full transparency, engines will be sealed by a CSAI commissioner. Engines can be substituted in whichever moment of the event. Drawing for tyres will follow the parc fermé system. The distance run in every event is of 8 Kilometres in the heats, 12 in the first Final, 10 in the second Final. COSTS AND PRIZES Renting a fully equipped kart - chassis, engine, tyres, fuel, seat, reserved area and security pass - costs 980.00 + VAT per race. Price includes entry fee for the race and for the Italian Championship. Each driver can be assisted by his/her own mechanic or, if requested, by a mechanic supplied by Birel (in this case there is an extra fee of 400.00 + VAT per driver for a Birel technician who will assist up to two drivers). Damages must be paid aside. A deposit of 600.00 must be paid upon entry. At the end of the three rounds of the championship, a total amount of 600.00 will be awarded by ACI/CSAI to those who take part in all the three rounds of the calendar. 3
PRIZES PRIZES There will be ten drivers selected to undergo a psycho-aptitude test in Maranello at the Ferrari Driver Academy. Three out of these ten drivers will be chosen and will be given the final prize: the CSAI Federal Supercourse at the Vallelunga racetrack on Formula ACI CSAI Abarth cars, with the assistance of Ferrari Driver Academy. In 2011 the Supercourse was won by A n t o n i o F u o c o, i n 2 0 1 2 b y Cristopher Zani. FERRARI DRIVER ACADEMY Ferrari Driver Academy was created to select and train young talents of international and national car-racing. This training pathway - at least for the 4 young, Italian drivers - goes through CSAI and its Specialized Training Centre, the Michele Alboreto CSAI Federal School. The Centre was chosen as the breeding ground to the most promising Italian drivers who, usually, start from kart racing and then move to Formula ACI CSAI Abarth and FORMULA 3. In this way, CSAI can guide these young talents and follow them in their growth as men and as drivers. THE FEDERAL SCHOOL The Michele Alboreto CSA Federal School can be regarded as the university of car racing. The School is housed in the Piero Taruffi racetrack of Vallelunga and, thanks to a partnership with CONI, the School has been training car racing drivers since 1982. The Federal School is dedicated to those sportsmen who are willing to improve their skills in car racing: with the help of its instructors and its professional drivers, the School provides trainees not only with driving lessons, but also with lessons about sports regulations, code of conduct during races, psychophysical training and the main notions about how an engine works. There are two main sectors the school is divided into, and two independent structures: speed racing and rally. The two structures can both count on a wide range of cars.
