March 27 th - 29 th 2014 University Children s Hospital Zurich, Switzerland Basic Course of Paediatric Echocardiography Patrick J. Lynch, medical illustrator; C. Carl Jaffe, MD, cardiologist Organised by the Imaging Working Group and Cardiovascular Morphology Working Group of the Association for European Paediatric and Congenital Cardiology AEPC, in collaboration with the Swiss Society for Neonatology.

March 27 th - 29 th 2014 University Children s Hospital Zurich, Switzerland Basic Course of Paediatric Echocardiography Dear Colleagues We invite you and welcome you to the second Basic Course of Paediatric Echocardiography of the AEPC that we have the honour to organize here in Zurich. Echocardiography is the basic instrument after clinical examination- in the hands of every paediatric cardiologist. Echocardiography provides fundamental information on the anatomy, physiology and function of the normal and malformed heart. Echocardiography is also gaining importance in the management of transitional haemodynamic status, such as during the neonatal period. The course maintains the well proved structure of lectures on the basic technical aspects, the systematic approach of imaging the normal heart and an overview of all major congenital heart diseases. The imaging concepts are completed by anatomical specimen from the anatomical collection of the Cardiovascular Pathology Unit of the University of Padua and from the Department of Pathology of the University of Zürich shown in relation with the different echocardiographic views. In addition this year the course includes some special lectures and a full session on echocardiography of the neonate. Beside projections of typical cases, the course offers also hands-on sessions in both, paediatric and neonatal echocardiography. A final mock examination will test the efficacy of the course and prepare to the accreditation examination organized by the Association of European Paediatric and Congenital Cardiology. By offering such a varied and complete program we hope to appeal a large public of young paediatric cardiologists in training, neonatologists, and interested paediatricians. A. Cavigelli-Brunner E.
