1 9 th SEMINAR OF PROBATION AND SOCIAL WORK IN JUSTICE Social work works. Roles and professional skills in Criminal Justice November 2015, NH Hotel Fribourg, Switzerland GOALS OF THE SEMINAR With the title Social Work Works the 2015 seminar of the Swiss Association for Probation and Social Work in Criminal Justice (prosaj) sets out to explore and develop the contribution of social work to reducing recidivism and the positive resettlement of offenders. The seminar, with the participation of various experts, will examine and discuss how social work practice and effectiveness in Criminal Justice in Switzerland can be further improved. During the seminar we will focus on three core framework conditions for effective social work practice: a broad and flexible normative framework, qualified and motivated professional staff, who use collaborative practice to implement solutions in a respect ful climate with clients to address problems, change behaviour and reduce offending, research-validated practices from scientific models that are transferable to the identified needs of sentenced persons. The issue of a normative framework, or standards, contributing to effective social work will be discussed with particular reference to the European Probation Rules adopted by the Council of Europe in Another central topic of the seminar relates to the professional profiles required in the field of the highquality social work. Finally, the promotion and implementation of results-focused practice, aiming at offender reintegration, will be in the focus of this thematic seminar. Schweizerische Vereinigung Bewährungshilfe und Soziale Arbeit in der Justiz Association Suisse de Probation et de Travail Social dans la Justice Associazione Svizzera del Patronato e del Lavoro Sociale nella Giustizia As an occasion to meet and reflect, the seminar will be an opportunity to review practice and inform professional development. The participants at the seminar will be asked to compare their practices with current standards and professional models to possibly enhance their future professional environment and identity.
