Solar glass solar energy for a better future Green energy is on the rise and not only since the nuclear disaster. There is a great potential for the future to produce energy from our given natural resources like wind and sun. In times of dwindling resources the inexhaustible power of the sun represents the environmentally consciousness in respect of energy production. The production of solar modules differs with regard to the absorbing material. There are two main technology groups on the market: crystalline silicon (c-si) and thin film (CdTe/CIS, CIGS/a-Si/µ-Si). Solar glass from EUROGLAS suits both applications and is optimized for thin film technology. In the solar module, production glass is used as the front cover and the back cover. Long-term stability and consistency rep- resent the two main features of glass. Therefore, it meets the requirement to protect the sensitive absorber. The efficiency of a solar module plays a decisive role for the customers buying decision. This factor can be enhanced by a higher light transmission of front glass through the application of a special coating. More light comes into the module, consequently more energy comes out of it. In addition we offer an adjusted barrier layer in order to seal the glass and improve the resistance against environmental influence Simplified construction of a solar module Front glass Barrier layer TCO coating PV absorber Back glass EUROGLAS PV Flat EUROGLAS PV Hy TCO Customer EUROGLAS PV Flat 3

EUROGLAS PV Hy TCO The excellent features of the coated solar glass are the result of the combination of the optical and electrical parameters. An increase in the trapped light for optimized light scatter- ing is possible due to an adaptable Haze. The distribution can vary optionally between 0 % and 90 %. Customer could choose the specific distribution. EURO- GLAS applies the electric conductive material aluminum zinc oxide for TCO coating. The processing is carried out offline which allows a high degree of flexibility by adjusting the main parameters of transmission and sheet resistance (feasible range between 4 to 20 ohm) To improve the long-term stability of solar glass a bar- rier coating can be applied. The silicon oxide barrier layer avoids the cationic diffusion from glass in the coating sys- tem. Furthermore, it helps to protect the sensitive coating and makes it more resistant and conductive. High transparency and light scattering-custom layers To reach high efficiency and get the optimum energy of the sun for PV Modules, the front glass has to fulfill major requirements. Using EUROGLAS PV HY TCO the power of the module increases significantly. TCO means Transparent Conductive Oxide, a transparent and electrically conductive layer for thin film modules. EUROGLAS PV HY TCO enables the module producers the possibility of differentiation for a highly competitive market. TCO coating is custom-made to the individual process. The very flat surface of EUROWHITE Solar amplifies the aesthetic look of the module. 6

Special application Conductive glass for innovative future technologies Switchable glass The usage of coated glass is not restricted to the solar business. It also allows for a wide range of applications, because of the variably adaptable optical and electrical parameters. OLED-area light source Shading of spaces and buildings without additional blinds is possible by the electro chrome effect. EUROGLAS zinc oxide coating is best suited for this application. Features of coated glass are high transmission and excellent conductivity. The conductivity of the coated glass is used to create light in an energy-saving and aesthetic manner. OLED is the name for Organic Light Emitting Diodes, the light source for the next gen- eration. In the future it could be possible to have a store window which can be either transparent or also used as a display. Furthermore, the application as a room divider with light tiles is conceivable. EUROGLAS PV Hy TCO is coated with zinc oxid. Due to the low sheet resistance, high transmission and surface roughness it meets all requirements for an mum carrier glass for OLED. PCB-printed circuit boards of glass opti- In the future the electronic market will need more and more pow- erful components. Thereby the imagination for glass applications is limitless, from touch lights to LED lights to glass displays to name only a few. The material glass is superior in hygienic, size, design, functionality and lifespan compared to related products. Silicon-based barrier layers The durability of glass depends on surrounding environmental influences. EUROGLAS offers a special silicon-based coating which increases enormously the long-term stability. This barrier layer prevents the glass from corrosion. Reference: Osram Reference: econtrol 8
