Stockholm Control Requirements Information and learning objectives VACCSCA By Martin Loxbo Reworked by Daniel Edvardsson Study Questions by Håkan Schulz September 2010 Version 2 1
Introduction Controllers who wish to provide air traffic services as Stockholm Control (ESSA APP) need to pass a practical and theoretical test referred to as a major airport checkout. This checkout leads to a Major Airport Endorsement. The purpose of this document is to help you to study for the checkout. All the information you need can be found in the Local Procedures Manual for Stockholm TMA. It is important that you study all documentation thoroughly but extra attention should be paid to sections marked with a red line since these are considered more important. If you wish to, you can request an OTS without any prior training at ESSA, but we recommend that you request training from our Training Department so that you can practice and discuss the procedures at ESSA with a mentor. The training and checkout are both provided by the training department. To acquire training, send a training request through our website and a mentor will be assigned in order to prepare you for your virtual career at Stockholm/Arlanda. During your checkout, an examiner will assess your performance, both theoretical and practical, in the 10 different subjects listed below. The examiner may ask you to answer some of the questions that are included in this document, or similar questions relating to the subjects listed below. Obviously, some subjects (such as agreed flight levels, standard coordination procedures and how to vector arrivals) are very important to everyday operations, and should be known by heart by all controllers, while other subjects relate to situations that are not as common (such as CAT III operations or simulating AFIS). Nevertheless, all subjects are important and while you may not know everything by heart already, you need to convince your examiner during the checkout that you are able to work your station satisfactorily. Your results in each subject are graded on a scale from 1 to 5, and the final result is the sum of your performance in all the subjects divided by the maximum score of the test. You need a result of at least 75% of the maximum score to pass the test. Good luck! Respond to the following pilot call: Stockholm, CCA987 field in sight Stockholm, KLM1031, we have technical problems intercepting the ILS for runway 01R but have field in sight, request to make visual approach for landning runway 01R 3
(5) Radar vectoring - arrival {Ref [1], page 74} s (a) Speed control: Suppose you are manning ESSA_APP and you have 6 arriving jet aircrafts almost simultaneously. You would like to impose speed restrictions. Suggest speed restrictions for: - aircraft on downwind - aircraft on base leg - aircraft on final until passing outer marker (b) Suggest altitude to descend arrivals for intercepting ILS approach to: - ESSA runway 26 - ESOW runway 19 - ESSA runway 01R - ESSB runway 30 (c) Horizontal radar separation: Indicate in which case(s) the separation is sufficient for the following arrivals established on ILS runway 26 (DEP19R, braking action good and CAVOK) (A) SAS1624 (B736) with SAS518 (MD82) 3.1 NM behind (B) KLM1113 (B737) with BLF637 (RJ1H) 2.7 NM behind (6) Missed approach Ref [1] page 33, section 2.1.4.11 s Suppose you are manning ESSA_APP and have control over LOT76 on final approach course for runway 01L at 6000ft. The runway configuration is ARR01L / DEP08-LT. You are shortly about to transfer LOT76 to ESSA_TWR, but LOT76 is too high and fast to be able to intercept the ILS and decides to execute a missed approach. (a) How would you respond to the pilot call: Stockholm, LOT76 executing missed approach (b) How would you handle LOT76 in cooperation with ESSA_TWR? 4
(7) Radar vectoring departure {Ref[1], page 66-67, section 3.2.1.5 and 3.2.1.6} ESSA_TWR is online and the runway configuration is ARR19L / DEP19R. It is a weekday and daytime. You are manning ESSA_APP. Arlanda Tower transfers the following departures to you. Which departure(s) would need to radar vectoring to their exit point?
