If the ball joint turns together with the nut, use a hexagon (5 mm) wrench to hold the stud. F48841 18. 279 19. REMOVE REAR SHOCK ABSORBER WITH COIL SPRING (a) Support the rear suspension arm assy No.1 LH. F49416 (b) Remove the bolt and nut from the rear suspension arm assy No.1 LH. When removing the bolt, hold the nut not to rotate. F49417 (c) Remove the 3 nuts. F49418 (d) Remove the 3 bolts and rear suspension lower brace LH. Press the rear suspension arm assy No.1 LH down to the outside of the vehicle and remove the rear shock absorber with coil spring. F49420 20. REMOVE REAR SHOCK ABSORBER CAP LH 21. REMOVE REAR SHOCK ABSORBER (a) Using SST, compress the coil rear spring. SST 0972730021 (0972700010, 0972700021, 0972700031) Do not use an impact wrench. It will damage the SST. 2711 22. INSPECT REAR SHOCK ABSORBER (a) Compress and extend the shock absorber rod and check for unusual resistance or unusual sound during the operation. If there is any malfunction, replace the rear shock absorber with a new one. F49423 SST 23. INSTALL REAR SHOCK ABSORBER (a) Using SST, compress the coil rear spring. SST 0972730021 (0972700010, 0972700021, 0972700031) Do not use an impact wrench. It will damage the SST. F40128 (b) Install the coil rear spring to the rear shock absorber. Fit the lower end of the coil rear spring into the gap of the spring lower seat. (c) Install the rear spring bumper No.1 LH and rear suspension support assy LH. (d) Set the rear coil spring insulator upper LH to the rear spring front bracket subassy LH. C67583 G24416 Front 23.7 C96135 (e) Position the rear spring front bracket subassy LH with rear coil spring insulator upper LH as shown in the illustration. Place the RH side on the symmetric position to the illustration. (f) Install the rear suspension support assy LH and rear shock absorber cushion washer No.1. (g) Temporarily tighten a new center nut. (h) Remove the SST. (i) Recheck the direction of the spring bracket. (j) Using a 6 mm hexagon wrench to hold the piston rod, tighten the nut. Torque: 56 N m (571 kgf cm, 41 ft lbf) C95738 1607
2712 24. INSTALL REAR SHOCK ABSORBER CAP LH 25. INSTALL REAR SHOCK ABSORBER WITH COIL SPRING (a) Install the rear shock absorber with coil spring with the 3 nuts. Torque: 80 N m (816 kgf cm, 59 ft lbf) F49418 (b) Temporarily tighten the bolt and nut. When installing the bolt, tighten the bolt temporarily with the nut fixed. F49417 (c) Install the rear suspension arm assy No.1 LH with the 3 bolts. Torque: 65 N m (663 kgf cm, 48 ft lbf) F49420 (d) Connect the parking brake cable assy No.3 with the 2 bolts. 2713 (e) Install the rear suspension lower brace LH with the 3 bolts. Torque: 64 N m (653 kgf cm, 47 ft lbf) F49419 26. INSTALL REAR STABILIZER LINK ASSY LH (a) Install the rear stabilizer link assy LH with the nut. Torque: 44 N m (449 kgf cm, 32 ft lbf) If the ball joint turns together with the nut, use a hexagon (5 mm) wrench to hold the stud. F48841 27. INSTALL REAR STABILIZER LINK ASSY RH Install the RH side by the same procedures as for the LH side. 28. CONNECT SKID CONTROL SENSOR WIRE (a) Install the wire bracket and bolt. Torque: 5.0 N m (51 kgf cm, 44 in. lbf) (b) Connect the skid control sensor connector. F49421 29. INSTALL REAR WHEEL Torque: 103 N m (1,050 kgf cm, 76 ft lbf) 30. STABILIZE SUSPENSION (a) Bounce the vehicle up and down several times to stabilize the suspension. F49417 31. FULLY TIGHTEN REAR SHOCK ABSORBER WITH COIL SPRING (a) Fully tighten the bolt and nut. Torque: 140 N m (1,430 kgf cm, 103 ft lbf) When installing the bolt, hold the nut not to rotate. Be sure to empty the vehicle when fully tightening the bolt and nut. 1609
