Caïssa Modules in the box The DGT Caïssa System consists of several different modules. 1. Collector Module: Connects through a USB port to a computer and communicates wireless with Booster Modules and Board Modules. The Collector is powered by a 12 Volt to 110-240 Volt mains adapter. Please note that this adapter only has a Europe type wall plug connection. A converter may be needed in countries outside Europe or within the UK. A Collector has an external antenna. For easy transportation the antenna can be removed from the device and stored into the shipping suitcase (included). 2. Booster Module: A Booster Module communicates wireless between Collector Modules and Board Modules. A Booster Module is powered by a 12 Volt to 110-240 Volt Mains adapter. A Booster Module has an external antenna. Same comment as for above mentioned power adapter is applicable for the power adapter of the Booster Module. 3. Board Module (BoMo): The BoMo communicates wireless with Booster Modules and Collector Modules. Every BoMo is connected via a serial cable (Board-to-Bus cable) with a DGT e-board. BoMo s are powered by 6 1.5 V Mignon batteries. The DGT serial e-board takes also power from the connected BoMo. Optionally a BoMo can be powered by an external 9 V mains adapter. Parts are available via our web shop: www.dgtshop.nl A BoMo has a built in antenna. MA_ENG_LiveChess_Quick Set-up Caissa_Rev 3 Page 2

Systematic DGT Caïssa setup. Below picture shows a schematic set-up of the DGT Caïssa System: More details can be found on the user manual LiveChess and the user manual Caïssa System. BoMo BoMo batteries Put 6 new 1.5 Volt Mignon batteries in every BoMo. Rechargeable batteries of 1.2 Volts each will also do if these are charged sufficiently. A set of alkaline batteries can power the BoMo and DGT e-board for about 6 hours continuously. There is also an option to use a AC adapter (9 Volt 400 MA) to supply the BoMo. Qualified adapters are available in our web store: www.dgtshop.nl No batteries are required when an adapter is connected. MA_ENG_LiveChess_Quick Set-up Caissa_Rev 3 Page 3

BoMo to DGT e-board connection Connect each BoMo to a DGT e-board and a DGT XL or DGT 3000 clock with a Board-to-Bus cable. See picture below. Place the batteries or connect the AC adapter and switch the BoMo on. The small black power switch is located at the back side of the BoMo. The LED (on the back near the power switch) will blink (2 cycles per second ) RED for about 5 seconds indicating that the BoMo is booting up. Then the LED will blink green for about 15 25 seconds indicating that the BoMo is trying to connect with the DGT e-board. Then the LED will turn green constantly indicating that the DGT e-board is found. Now the BoMo is setting up a connection with the Collector Module (or Booster Module when used). MA_ENG_LiveChess_Quick Set-up Caissa_Rev 3 Page 4

The LED will stay green until the BoMo has connected with a Booster Module, or Collector Module, that has, on its turn, connected to a computer running DGT LiveChess. If a BoMo has not been able to connect with DGT LiveChess after 6 minutes, than the LED will turn RED indicating that no connection could be set-up. If a BoMo has found a Collector Module, or Booster Module, the LED will go off to save power. Connection with DGT LiveChess is now OK and DGT e-boards will slowly show up in the DGT LiveChess menus. Collector Module In below picture A 12 Volt power adapter is already connected to the Collector Module. Place the adapter into a working AC outlet (110 240 Volt AC). Connect a USB cable (included) between the Collector Module and a free USB port of the computer with DGT LiveChess 1.4.5 already installed. Remark: Please do not use older DGT LiveChess versions as they are not programmed for the new (grey metal) Collector Modules and (grey metal ) Booster Modules. The Collector Module is equipped with 2 LED s. One provides an indication of the power source and one provides feedback on the network status. Please note that in the pictures below, the antenna is oriented on the upper side. MA_ENG_LiveChess_Quick Set-up Caissa_Rev 3 Page 5

Status: Collector is booting up. (Aprox 1-3 seconds) Status: Mains powered and searching network connection. Status: Fully charged, mains powered and online. Status: mains powered and (temporary) off line. Status: Battery charging (temporary) suspended and online. Status: Battery is charging and online. Status: Operating on battery and searching network connection. Status: No main power and online (battery powered). You will have the best reliable transmission when the antenna of the Collector Module is positioned horizontally and mounted as high as possible. Use the antenna extension cable to increase the antenna height and improve the signal quality. Alternatively the complete Collector Module or Booster Module can be mounted high to a wall or ceiling. For easy mounting of the Collector Module we prefer to use the antenna extension cable. Power tape (duct tape) is a good and secure method of mounting the antenna or Modules and antenna extension cable to a wall or ceiling. See below picture: MA_ENG_LiveChess_Quick Set-up Caissa_Rev 3 Page 6

Start LiveChess and select the Serial ports in the left panel. After the opening screen of DGT LiveChess you will see the DGT LiveChess main screen where port selection can be done and the connections can be monitored. In below screen we have set-up a connection via port 38. The DGT Caïssa System is up and running and using communication channel 15. Remark: This may change in in the future when multiple Collector Modules are supported and added. If you see more than 1 port then you may have to check which port number belongs to the USB port used by DGT LiveChess. For checking port usage you can start the Windows Control Panel as shown in below picture. The port will be visible as FT232R USB UART. (Not as Caïssa port) See next screenshot where the active port is Com 38: MA_ENG_LiveChess_Quick Set-up Caissa_Rev 3 Page 7

Picture is related to Windows 7 Windows 8 After several minutes (please be patient) the selected port (COM 38 in this example) will recognize the DGT Caïssa System. Then the individual DGT e-boards will show up after several minutes. See screenshot: Pairing of the boards and tables Al further actions in DGT LiveChess are exactly the same as in the wired version. You can pair the board and table numbers by placing the White King on a4 subsequently, with the Setup e-boards window open. Please wait until the board is recognized before moving the King on the next board. Remark: With the DGT Caïssa System this process takes more time than with the wired system. MA_ENG_LiveChess_Quick Set-up Caissa_Rev 3 Page 8

In this picture all 4 available boards are paired and DGT e-board details are listed on the screen: Using a Booster Module. A Booster Module should be used when more than 10 boards or when the distance between computer/collector and one of the boards is more than 20 meters. Signal strength is depending on building construction and obstacles located between the DGT e-boards and used Modules. A Booster Module has a water resistant housing. The connection of the power cable needs some extra attention. Push the DC power cable as far as possible in the connector with the locknut opened. Then refit the nut again. A Booster Module is used as a pass through communication port and only needs power. No extra signal cables are required. A Booster Module should also be positioned as high as possible with the antenna positioned horizontally. If needed you can add an antenna cable extender to create extra height. See the next picture which also could be applicable for the Collector Module: MA_ENG_LiveChess_Quick Set-up Caissa_Rev 3 Page 9

Also the Booster Module is equipped with 2 LED s. One provides an indication of the power source and one provides feedback on the network status. Please note that in the pictures below the antenna is oriented on the upper side. Status: Booster Module is booting up. (Aprox 1-3 seconds) Status: Mains powered and searching network connection. Status: Fully charged, mains powered and online. Status: Mains powered and (temporary) off line. Status: Battery charging (temporary) suspended and online. Status: Battery is charging and online. MA_ENG_LiveChess_Quick Set-up Caissa_Rev 3 Page 10

Status: Operating on battery power and searching network connection. Status: No main power and online (battery powered). Update of Board Modules To update the BOMO s, a special cable is included to the DGT Caïssa System kit: Important: Please make sure this cable is only used to update the BOMO s. Do not use this cable between Collector and computer as it has been prepared for a serial transmission and may blow-up your collector!! Details how to update the BoMo s can be found in the User manual LiveChess. All BoMo s are shipped with the latest greatest firmware version so updating them should only be required after consulting DGT support. Remark: DGT is aware that not all information is included within this Quick Guide. Please carefully read the additional manuals (User manual Caïssa System and User Manual LiveChess) included on the CD. If you have any further question please feel free to check the FAQ section from our website: www.dgtprojects.com or contact our support department at support@dgtprojects.com. ======================================================== MA_ENG_LiveChess_Quick Set-up Caissa_Rev 3 Page 11
