Required Music List Group I PIANO EVENTS 2013-14 -- 2018-19
Specific Rules and Guidelines for all ISSMA Solo & Ensemble Piano Solo Entries 1. Participation in any ISSMA Festival requires current membership by the participating school in ISSMA. 2. All soloists and ensemble members must be bona fide students of the school they represent, enrolled in grades 5-12 and must be certified by their Principal or Superintendent and school music teacher. 3. Any solo or ensemble entrant, including piano soloists, must be a member of a school music organization or a school accompanist in order to participate in solo or ensemble events. Organization does not include required classroom music classes, but means that they must be a member of a band, orchestra, or chorus. This regulation does not apply to grades 5 and 6 where there are no music organizations. 4. All entries are made by the student s school music teacher and are classified by the following Group Levels: Group V - A soloist grade 5, 6, 7, or 8 entering for the first time. Easy music Group IV A soloist grade 5, 6, 7, 8 or 9. Easy music Group III - A soloist grade 5-12. Medium Easy Medium Music Group II - A soloist grade 5-12. Medium Medium difficult Music Group I - A soloist grade 5 12, performing music from the current required list. 5. Memorization is required for all Group I piano solos at both District and State. 6. A soloist may perform a different solo at State Solo and Ensemble than performed at District providing that the solo is recognized on the current required list. It is the student s responsibility to make the change with the judge just prior to performance. 7. A soloist shall not repeat a number used by him/her in any previous year. 8. All required movements and/or sections must be performed as indicated on the required list. The actual performance time for Group I piano solos shall be a maximum of 5 minutes. Suitable cuts shall be made by the student or teacher if the selection is of longer duration; however, the total performance must demonstrate the demands of the composition. The director or teacher must mark the judge s copy to indicate the cut or cuts. 9. Judges must be provided an original score with all performed measures numbered. 10. It is not common practice to provide warm-up pianos at District sites. 11. Concerns about adjudication should be addressed through the judge evaluation form found in the ISSMA Music Festivals Manual. This is a responsibility of the school music teacher and any concerns from a private teacher, parent, or student should be communicated to the teacher and not the judge. 12. The Indiana State School Music Association is governed by an elected State Board consisting of three music teachers and one school administrator from each of the eight geographical zones in Indiana. Rules and Regulations of all events are determined through procedures as prescribed in the ISSMA Music Festivals Manual and shall supersede the above Rules and Guidelines. 13. All festivals are administered and coordinated through the ISSMA office.
