2 THE ROMANTIC SOUL We look deep into one of the most emotional periods of Classical Music Romanticism, with a varied range of works from solo piano to the complete clarinet-violin-piano trio. Numerous Russian artists including Stravinsky and Chagall called France their home, while the famous bistro cafes took their name from the Russian word fast. Here we examine French and Russian music side by side as we present legendary works next to contemporary. 3 MUSIC OF A SILENCED NATION: SOVIET COMPOSERS For over seventy-five years, the Soviet Regime in Russia was diligently dedicated to eliminating the countrys most talented and intelligent. From writers, to musicians, to scientists the countrys brightest were sent into exile, banned from stages and simply eliminated. Yet this incredible nation managed to produce some of this centurys strongest and most prophetic voices. With Music of a Silenced Nation we present renowned Russian composers from the Soviet era, side by side with lesser-known, yet as important, figures whose names never made it across the iron curtain.
