Quick Reference Guide for Mimio Studio Notebook Software Menu: MimioStudio Gallery
Background Information: Almost everything I have learned about using Mimio Studio Notebook, I have learned by watching the Quick Learn: On Demand Videos under the Training tab and by just experimenting and playing with it. However, there is also an entire network of Mimio lessons already created for your use at http://mimioconnect.com/. Lesson plans and activities are arranged by grade and subject matter and can be downloaded for your use. Simply go to MimioConnect and sign up for a free membership. You can also download the software at home. To download MIMIO Studio Notebook at home go to the website: http://www.mimio.com/en- NA/Support/Downloads/Windows.aspx Copy and paste the code below to activate the software. STU50-MJJWN-E7W8G-TBDL0 Creating Your Own Activities: 1) When creating an activity in Mimio Studio Notebook, you want to think about everything in terms of layers and moveable versus lockable items. 2) Everything you bring into Mimio, whether it be a text, a shape, line, an image, and so forth can be moved or locked into place, and it will be placed on top (or in front of) whatever was on the page before it. You can also group objects together to make one item. 3) So you want to typically build your page from the back toward the front. Quick Step by Step Directions for Identifying Structures on a Diagram: 1) Find an image or diagram you want students to label. You can copy and paste it into Mimio Studio Notebook, or you can Insert a picture file. Lock the image as you do not want it moving around on students. (Right click on the image to lock it.) 2) Add lines using the line tool indicating the structures you want students to identify if they are not already present on the diagram. Lock each line as you add it. You do not want them moving around as students are dragging around terms. 3) Somewhere on your page (on the side, on the bottom, etc.) create an area for a word bank of terms that will be used to correctly identify the parts of your diagram by adding a rectangle or any other desired shape to that area of the page. Make sure to select your desired border color/width and fill color before doing so.
4) Use your text tool to create a list of all of the terms that will be used to complete the identification of structures. To make it more difficult for the students, add distractors that do not get used. Do not lock these down. Students need to be able to move them around and place them on the appropriate leader lines. 5) Create pull down directions for your slide by first creating a rectangle of desired size and color. 6) Create pull down directions for your slide by first creating a rectangle of desired size and color. 7) Create a text box to go inside of the rectangle with your desired directions. 8) Add an arrow with a line to the rectangle. 9) Group objects 5, 6, and 7. This one item can now be pushed off of the screen so just the tip of the pointer is visible. You can make the pointer large enough to add words that say things like Pull for Directions, Objectives, Hint, or any other message you would like to add for your students to see. 10) This one object can now be pushed off the screen so that just the tip of the pointer is visible. Note: At this point you can be finished or you can create an answer key to pull in from the side as well to provide instant student feedback. Creating an Answer Key for Structure Identification (continued from activity above) 11) Insert a Duplicate Page. 12) Create a rectangle to cover the entire image, making sure that it is clear/transparent. 13) Slide the answers into their correct positions. 14) Group the answers and the rectangle to create one object. 15) Add an arrow off the side of the object and group it to the object as well. 16) Drag this object up onto the previous slide. Move it off the screen. 17) Delete the additional slide. 18) Return to your previous slide. Position your answer key in the appropriate position so that it is lined up with the answers in the correct place. 19) Use your shape tools to add a circle to the page. 20) Add a direction to drag the arrow to the circle for the correct answers. Quick Step by Step Directions for Making a Magic Slider: (Show Opposites, Pairings, Definitions, Verbs/Irregular Verbs, Character/Character Analysis, Math Problems/Answer Keys, etc.) 1) Create a rectangle covering the left hand side of your page using one color. Lock it into place. 2) Create a rectangle covering the right hand side of your page using a second color. Lock it into place. 3) Create pull down directions for your slide by first creating a rectangle of desired size and color. 4) Create a text box to go inside of the rectangle with your desired directions. 5) Add an arrow with a line to the rectangle.
6) Group objects 3, 4, and 5. This one item can now be pushed off of the screen so just the tip of the pointer is visible. You can make the pointer large enough to add words that say things like Pull for Directions, Objectives, Hint, or any other message you would like to add for your students to see. 7) You are now ready to add your pairs (opposites, terms/definitions, etc.) to your page. 8) Begin by creating a text box for your first item on the left hand side. Select your font and size. The color you select should be that of the color of the rectangle you chose for the right hand side of the screen! 9) Create a text box for its pair. Select your font and size and now make sure the color you select is the same color as the rectangle for on the left hand side of your screen. 10) Group these two text boxes together so they slide back and forth across the screen. When they are slid to the left, the text on the left will be visible over the opposite colored background and when slid to the right, the text on the right will be revealed on the opposite colored background when slide to the right. 11) Set your pairings up in the position you want students to study them and SAVE your work. This is just the beginning of what Mimio Studio Notebook can do. You can create other interactive lessons that provide immediate feedback for students. It can be used to annotate anything on your screen (notes, websites, etc.), they can be saved and displayed again and again.
