New garden waste service Your new chargeable garden waste service starts from April 2015 When you sign up to the service, we will start collecting your garden waste from your green bin. From April, your bin will be collected every two weeks for most of the year and then once a month in winter. We will let you know your collection day when you have signed up to the service. Your new garden waste service is provided at a cost of: Why not share a green bin and the cost with your neighbour! 40 per year You can sign up to this service from February by visiting www.brent.gov.uk/gardenwaste or by calling 020 89 5050. Important information When you sign up to the garden waste service you will keep your existing green bin. If you don t have one please let us know. If you do not want to sign up to the garden waste service you cannot use your existing green bin after 6 April. We will remove your bin after this date. If you receive certain benefits you may be entitled to a 20% discount. Proof of benefits will need to be provided. If you change your mind you have 14 days to cancel after you sign up. If you do not have space for a bin, please contact us to discuss an alternative container for your garden waste. An officer may need to visit your property. If you want to share the cost with a neighbour only one person needs to sign up. What else can I do with my garden waste if I do not want to sign up? Home composting Home composting is a great alternative to using the garden waste service. You can purchase a compost bin at a reduced price from Even Greener, by calling: 0800 16 4454 or by visiting: www.getcomposting.com Prices start at 19.98 plus 5.49 for delivery. Household Reuse and Recycling Centre The site is located at: Abbey Road, Park Royal NW10 TJ A wide range of materials including garden waste can be brought to this site. Opening hours are 8am-4pm, days per week except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year s Day. Important information Here s what you need to know about our duties and powers, and what they mean for you. Section 46 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 allows us to tell you how you must present your waste for collection. We have the authority to say that separate bins must be used for waste to be recycled and waste which is not. We can also insist that all waste must be contained within the bins provided and that excess waste is not permitted and will not be collected. We can issue fixed penalty notices for not following our instructions. If you persistently refuse to follow these instructions, we can prosecute you and you could be fined up to 1,000.

Food waste recycling Coming soon Look out for your new food waste container, which will be delivered to you by the end of February 2015. pyleeasse You can recycle all your food waste, both cooked and uncooked. Eggs and dairy products Fruit and vegetables Meat, fish and bones Tea bags and coffee grounds Bread, pasta and rice Plate scrapings 1 2 Put your food waste into a kitchen caddy liner or wrap it in newspaper. Do not use plastic bags. Place your wrapped food waste into your food waste container. Please place your food waste container next to your recycling bin for collection. You can use newspaper, paper or paper bags to wrap your food waste. If you want to use caddy liners you can order them from www.caddyliners.com, phone 0844 42 181 or purchase them at your local supermarket. From April 2015 you cannot place your food waste into the large green bin. April 2015 From April 2015 all food waste must be placed into your food waste container.
General waste Your general waste bin will still be emptied every other week. All general waste must be contained within your grey wheeled bin. We will not empty your general waste bin if it contains any garden waste. If you have garden waste please sign up for that service. Please see page 2 for more information. Bin with lid closed, no waste visible. If you are struggling to fit all your general waste in your grey wheeled bin then contact us for help. Bulky waste Free collection of bulky household items. Furniture, large and small electrical items, carpets and flooring can be collected by us on request. You can have up to three free collections per financial year (1 April to 1 March) per household with up to five separate items collected each time. Items must be left outside your property, but not on the footpath or public highway. We do not collect from back gardens. Items should be visible from the road. Where should I put my bins on my collection day? Please place your bins as near to the street as possible by am on the day of collection or they will not be emptied. What happens if I cannot move my bins? We provide a special assisted collection service for residents who are unable to move their bins out for collection. This service is only available to residents who have a disability or health condition and live in a property where no one else is able to help. An assisted collection means that our operatives will come in to your front garden to collect your bins from a location that we have agreed with you.
