Introduction Many old generators are still equipped with DC generators for supply of DC current. and slip rings for feeding the excitation current into the field winding. In a lot of cases static excitation is used even for small machines Slip rings are required for feeding the excitation current into the field winding: - Permanent replacement of brushes required - Pollution of generator with carbon dust requires more maintenance work Alstom Hydro Solution: Replacement with brushless exciter!
